It is no more news that the Oyo State government has began the recruitment of teachers for both primary and secondary schools in the state.

The recruitment which was declared open on Tuesday received a lot of criticism from all and sundry as there was complain on why the government chose to continue the archaic way.

Oyomind.com.ng recalled that the state government had earlier directed that interested applicants should visit the various Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Office close in their respective zone.

Responding to the plea of the people, the state government has created an online portal which will allow applicants to have access to the form at the comfort of their home.

The House of Assembly Candidates under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 general election has called on Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde to fulfil his promises made to the party during the coalition process.

This statement was made at the press conference held on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Center, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Oyomind.com.ng recalled that prior to the 2019 gubernatorial election, ADC among other political parties agreed to support the candidacy of Engr Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Upon his emergence, there has been allegation from different quarters that the governor never fulfilled the coalition promises he made.

Good afternoon.

We represent the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Candidates of the House of Assembly at the 2019 gubernatorial and house of assembly election in Oyo State.

We want to say unequivocally that we remain loyal members of the African Democratic Congress in Oyo State.

We also want to re-affirm our loyalty to the Leadership of Senator Olufemi Solagbade Lanlehin (SOLAN) the Governorship Candidate of African Democratic Congress Oyo State at the 2019 general election who along with other gubernatorial candidates freely and willingly relinquished their gubernatorial ambitions for Engineer Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party and worked together in defeating the ruling APC Candidate.

It is of important note therefore to remind us that the alliance of the 2nd March, 2019 was the master stroke that changed the calculus of the political landscape in Oyo State which gave the four parties the deserving victory that threw up Engineer Seyi Makinde to becoming the Oyo State Governor.

There were terms of agreement to the alliance of 2nd March, 2019 with a sharing formula of political appointments across board. All the coalition parties agreed to the terms without any reservations.

As the House of Assembly Candidates of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, which elections ran concurrently with that of the governorship elections the same day, we thus became eventually, the direct casualties and sacrificial lambs of the alliance as all the 32 seats of the House of Assembly went along the coalition governorship candidacy of Engineer Seyi Makinde. This was the same scenario with all other house of assembly candidates from the coalition parties.

It is also important to stress that we did not request for and were not given any financial compensation before consenting to the terms of alliance as we were repeatedly assured that we shall be the first consideration for political appointments. These assurances were also reemphasized with us by the governor during his Thank You visit to Senator Lanlehin residence.

On a very sad note however, we regret to announce that almost nine months into this government till date, Engineer Seyi Makinde HAS NOT FULFILLED ANY OF THE AGREEMENT REACHED BETWEEN OUR PRINCIPAL, SENATOR OLUFEMI LANLEHIN AND HIMSELF.

As a man of honor that our governor, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde is known to be and as a God fearing Christian, as assumed, we hereby call on His Excellency, Governor Oluseyi Makinde to, as a matter of importance and urgency, redeem his promises according to the terms of agreement with Senator Olufemi Lanlehin.

The body language of the governor is that of abandonment to fulfilling his own part of the agreement despite that we have staked everything possible to his electoral victory at the polls. That victory was our joint efforts and the terms of the promises must be fulfilled without further delay.

We have sacrificed so much than to be abandoned, used and dumped, ignored or treated in this manner. We should be setting good precedence, as we did in the last election, for other states to follow in similar circumstances.

Justice delayed, as they say, is justice denied.

While wishing the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration successful tenure, we pray that God will give him the courage to do justice without further delay.

Oyo State Chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has expressed their disappointment over the action of the State Government as they make a U-TURN on the out of court settlement.

Oyomind.com.ng recalled that the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde had earlier preferred an out of court settlement to find lasting solution to the ongoing tussle between the government and the democratically elected local government chairmen.

According to the State ALGON Chairman, Prince Abass Alesinloye in the press statement released on Tuesday, the government through their representatives made a U-TURN and told the ALGON’s team that the Governor was not willing to go on with the said negotiation again.

WHAT ELSE DOES HE WANTS, AS GOV. SEYI MAKINDE MADE A-U TURN BY SAYING ” CAPITAL NO ” TO THE NEGOTIATION INITIATED BY HIS GOVERNMENT.

Sequel to the invitation by the Oyo State Government to the ALGON, Oyo State Chapter, for amicable resolution of the present political impasse in the State, ALGON representatives met with the Governor’s team on the 8th February, 2020, to find a common ground in resolving the political imbroglio in the State (ALGON had gone with a prepared position paper).

ALGON demonstrated willingness in the interest of the good people of Oyo State and to release the grassroots from the cul de sac that the present administration in Oyo State has plunged the state into in the last nine (9) months by submitting its proposal to the Government’s team who was at the meeting surprisingly without a position.

It is disheartening to inform the general public that the Government that proposed an amicable settlement treated same with levity and shenanigans and postponed the meeting to the 10th February, 2020 to enable the Government take a position.

But to our disappointment, the State Government made a U-TURN through their representatives and told the ALGON’s team that the Governor was not willing to go on with the said negotiation again without proposing anything to the ALGON.

To put the record straight, ALGON demands basically the restoration of all the elected Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen and Councilors back to their respective Councils in line with the provision of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, which guarantees their tenure.

ALGON also assured His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde of total supports in moving Oyo State forward but the Governor rejected the ALGON requests and hands of fellowship extended to him by ALGON.

It is now clear that the State Government does not want peaceful resolution of the issue in Oyo State but rather playing the ostrich.

Even while the purported negotiation aborted by the State Government lasted for a short period, all the Illegal Caretaker Chairmen embarked on looting the public funds unabated at the local government with the connivance of some unscrupulous bank officials and few officials of Local Governments to the detriment of the people at the grassroots.

ALGON wishes to further reiterate its commitment to the peaceful resolution of the current political crisis in Oyo State and also pledge her commitment to join hands with the Governor to move Oyo State forward provided the Governor has a change of mind.

The current spare of unparralel cases of hooliganism and robberies in Oyo town calls are not only very disheartening but, appalling. The effects on the socio-economic activities can not be overlooked.

It has become a common news the stories of miscreants engaging in street fights, vandalizing public and private properties, and burglary, most especially, of business ventures.

Residents can no longer walk the streets freely for fear of being caught in the consistent free-for-all street fights, shops owners can no longer open business comfortably for fear of their ventures being looted or burgled. The perpetrators are unconcerned about the time of the day. They operate freely in the nights and also, in full glare of the public during the days.

Let us recall that a security summit was held by one of the indigenous groups in the town, Oyo Global Forum, some years ago with the aim of combating the menace of miscreants. Unfortunately, the issue has not only continued to exist, it has kept growing at an alarming rate.

Young boys in groups are scattered all over the town in annexes waiting for the slightest excuse to unleash mayhem and terrorize innocent citizens.

The question is, what have the security agencies in the state and Oyo town, in particular, done to curb this menace?

In Oyo town, we have the presence of the Operation Burst operatives, the Oyo Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS) amongst others but yet, we have not enjoyed their presence in recent times.

Our political office holders are seemingly unperturbed about the happenings or how else do we describe their lukewarm and lackadaisical attitude where lives and properties of their constituents are concerned?

Do we keep looking unconcerned because we have not been affected?

On daily basis, lives and or properties worth thousands of Naira are being lost everyday to the menace and the unrest being perpetrated by the miscreants.

Lawlessness has become the order of the days. Those who should speak for us and against the insanity have suddenly become blind, deaf and dumb.

For how long will these continue?

There can never be a better time than NOW for all stakeholders to come together under an umbrella to make proactive moves to curb the menace.

This is so unbecoming and if we all believe we are not concerned, consider those who have been victims. Let’s also consider the lives and properties being lost. And lastly, what goes around will come around someday.

I appeal to all stakeholders; security agencies, our representatives at all levels, public office holders, grassroot organizations, civil societies, students’ bodies, media outfits etc. to arise to this call.

Siyanbola Akinkunmi (Omo Iya Kunmi) is a Passionate Son of Oyo Town and the founder, Omo Iya Kunmi Foundation (OIKF).

In a bid to extend the operations of the agency to other parts of the state, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the resuscitation of zonal operational offices for the State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA).

This was disclosed by the Chairman, OYSROMA, Hon. Kamil Akinlabi Mudashiru during a press interview in Ibadan while inspecting the rehabilitation of the University of Ibadan-Bodija-Secretariat road being carried out by his agency on Saturday.

According to the Hon. Kamil, the approval of the resuscitation of the zonal offices aside Ibadan zone was to facilitate a more holistic and effective road rehabilitation and maintenance in all parts of the state.

“I wish to put it on record that His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, has graciously approved the resuscitation of zonal operational offices for the agency aside the Ibadan zone that operates from the headquarters at Eleyele, this is for effective road rehabilitation and maintenance in the nooks and crannies of the State.

“We know for sure that the work being done within Ibadan metropolis had to be extended to other parts of the State but we were waiting for this important approval so that we can have effective work done at all the communities in the State.”

He noted that the zonal operational offices would be for Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa zones, adding that his agancy would soon embark on a tour of facilities in all the mentioned zones.

“The routine rehabilitation and maintenance of our roads are on-going and we are set to embark on a tour of the facilities in all the zones in order to have a first hand information on the state of the facilities with a view to making them functional once again and these zones are Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa,” Akinlabi stated.

Oyo State Government has enjoined the resident to comply with environmental regulations of the state, especially as it relates to noise pollution.

This is contained in a statement signed today by the Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola that noise pollution makes the environment unfriendly and as such creates severe influence on human mental and physical health.

Rt. Hon. Ayoola opined that failure to comply, may cause unending friction among parties involved, thereby causing conflict in the society.

“It is opined that adequate compliance would assist to foster better working relationship and conducive environment without confrontation and friction involving the parties”, the statement read.

Towards this end, the Oyo State Government, through the Ministry has mandated all block industry owners, night clubs, patent medicine sellers, churches, mosques, musical vendors, street dancers to henceforth reduce their noise to permissible level that complies with existing law of the state.

Hesitation to abide by this law, the statement read, would attract heavy penalties and wrath of the binding laws of Oyo state.

The poor quality of job executed by contractor handling the 2017 FGN-UBEC/OyoSUBEB intervention project at Celestial Church of Christ High School, Ibadan has been decried by Oyo State Government.

Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran expressed this dissatisfaction during an on-the-spot inspection to sites of the projects in Ibadan.

Dr. Adeniran, while speaking at the school, located at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, described the job as ‘shoddy’, revealing that the State Government, would not tolerate inferior jobs by any contractor.

He appealed to contractors to always consider the lives of children and staff members who would occupy school buildings, while carrying out their jobs.

“Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration cherishes lives of these children and we will not permit this kind of job, which lacks quality. As such the contractor must return to site to correct anomalies on the building”, he said.

While he noted that there were several cracks on the school building, he also pointed at columns on the fences which were not copped, for proper beautification.

Dr. Adeniran also expressed dissatisfaction at the failure of the contractor to install security lights at the school. He said, the security lights would serve as checks against any intended burglary.

“As we can see here, the contractor has not finished his job. He needs to return to site to complete his job”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman has hinted that St. Michael’s Primary School, Apata, Ibadan is a beneficiary of the 2018 intervention projects.

This, he said is in fulfilment of his promise that the school would as a matter of urgency, receive a block of 3 classrooms, four compartment of toilets and a borehole.

Dr. Adeniran had earlier visited the school, where he noticed they were short of necessary and adequate facilities.

Hon Tolu Akande Sadipe K (TASK) has hailed the players representing Oluyole Local Government at the ongoing Unity Cup organized by the Minister for Youths and Sport Development, Mr Sunday Dare across the Federal Constituencies in Oyo State.

The team who had scaled through the group stage to quarter finals was showered encomium by Hon Sadipe having show case their talent that they are unbeatable in the ongoing competition.

Hon Tolu Sadipe said “I want to appreciate all players and coaches who have spared their precious time to represent all of us in the ongoing Unity Cup competition organized by the Minister for Youth and Sports Development.

“It is important to applaud these players for they have really done well having top their table in the competition. They have only showed what we are made of. I’m am extremely happy”.

Hon Sadipe singled handedly accepted took the responsibility to sponsor the team all through their games competition.

The team in a show of appreciation decided to change the team name from Team Oluyole to TEAM TASK to reciprocate the kind gesture towards them and the entire members of the local government.

Not less that five people lost their lives in an auto crash in Ogbomoso on Saturday.

The incident which happened very close to Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of Ogbomoso was said to have occurred due to lawlessness of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to an eye witness who spoke to oyomind.com.ng under anonymity said that the FRSC officials were chasing one 18 passenger bus from a side while some bike men are being chased by the policemen from the other side which make the bike men to cross to the another lane.

Three people from the 18 passenger bus who are going for a function died on spot together with two of the bike men.

The bodies of the dead victims were later taken away by the policemen while other injured people have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Oyo State government has continued on its efforts to rid the State of destitute and provide succor to children used for begging in the State by evacuating 41 beggars and 9 mentally-deranged individuals from major areas of Ibadan metropolis on Thursday.

The exercise which began by 10;05am at Mokola, Ibadan North Local government, was led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, alongside a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Matan Arewa Southwest Nigeria, a body that catered for the need of destitute from the Northern Nigeria, headed by its President, Hadjia Aishat Ismail.

Among the beggars, there were nine boys under twelve years old, six girls of the same age, fifteen men and ten women who were taken to special centers for rehabilitation by the government and the NGO.

The evacuated beggars were from the Northern Nigeria and were taken to a special center managed by the Matan Arewa Southwest Nigeria, in Ibadan with the assurance that the State government would work together with body to give the children free education, feeding and other essentials to change their status in the society.

Nine mentally-deranged individuals taken away by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social inclusion to Emmanuel Rehabilitation Center For The Mentally-Ill, Oja’gbo, Ibadan for medical care and rehabilitation.

In her words, the Commissioner, Alhaja Faosat Sanni said steps have been taken to continually evacuate destitute and street beggars until the society accepted that begging was not a way of life and those with mental sickness should be taken to public health institution, rather than be left to roam the street.

She added that the State administration had concluded plans to fortify orphanage homes in the State with household items and gadgets that would engage the children inhabiting the institutions in their pass time after coming from school.

“This evacuation exercise will be done continually till we rid the State of the menace of using children to beg for alms instead of taking them to social institutions provided by government and NGOs where they will be be catered for, we shall be doing this alongside the effort to change parents’ attitude towards their wards.

“Oyo State government has done what it promised in the area of provision of free education, uniform and meal for these categories of citizens and we are not relenting, we are in the process of fortifying these orphanage homes with playing gadgets and other household items for recreation, electronic gadgets will be an addition.”

The President, Matan Arewa Southwest Nigeria, Hadjia Aisha Ismail appreciated the government for the continued effort to take the less privileged from the slums to special centers where they could access free education, feeding and shelter, condemning the culture of begging among a particular side of the country.

She urged the general public to desist from giving money to beggars on the street but to those that have families but unable to cater for them, urging individuals and corporate organizations to collaborate with government in giving support to the less privileged in the society.
