Makinde Pays 2013 Retirees, Promises To Bring Relief to Entire Workforce in the State

Governor Makinde of Oyo State released cheques for the payment of pensions for 2013 retirees in the state.

Governor Makinde during the presentation of the cheques at the Government House, Agodi Secretariat on Monday expressed displeasure that the previous administration left a debt backlog of unpaid gratuity to the tune of about twenty-six billion nairas, but he would not relent in taking care of the welfare of retirees, hence the increase of the monthly release of gratuity from hundred million to one hundred and eighty million.

The Governor explained that despite meager resources in the state, he was determined to bring relief to the entire workforce in the state and its senior citizens by reversing the trend.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, the executive secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioner (NUP), Oyo state chapter, comrade Olusegun Abatan acknowledged Governor Seyi Makinde’s responsive disposition to pensioners in the state and appealed for pension harmonization, upward review of gratuities of retired Primary School teachers and Local Government pensioners amongst some other demands.

Earlier in his welcome address, the commissioner for establishment and training, Professor Daud Sangodoyin said over eighty-two retirees benefitted from the current disbursement.
