Professor Olumide Ephraim Olajide has been appointed as the new Head of the Department of Adult Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, marking another feat in his academic career spanning over two decades.
Professor Olumide Ephraim Olajide obtained all his academic qualifications from the University of Ibadan, where he earned his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Adult Education. He began his teaching career at the University of Ibadan as an Assistant Lecturer and steadily rose through the academic ranks to become a Professor through years of excellence in teaching, research and academic administration.
Prof. Olumide is widely regarded as an authority in Adult Education and Community Development, as he has published more than 75 scholarly articles in reputable national and international journals.
It should be noted that, his research focuses on Adult Education, Community Development, Gender Studies, Community Health, Income-Generating Activities and Social Capital, with particular emphasis on sustainable development through community participation, women and youth empowerment, cooperative societies, poverty alleviation and community-driven development.
Over the years, Professor Olumide has occupied several strategic academic and administrative positions. He served as the Pioneer Director of Academic Planning at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Chairman of the University of Ibadan Intra-Campus Transport Committee, Sub-Dean (Undergraduate), Faculty of Education, Departmental Examination Officer, Postgraduate Programme Coordinator, Chairman of the Faculty of Education Homecoming Committee and Head of the Community Development Unit. He also serves as Senate Representative on the Board of the Distance Learning Centre and Social Welfare Committee and is a member of the University of Ibadan Senate.
Beyond the University of Ibadan, Professor Olumide Ephraim Olajide has distinguished himself through active participation in professional and international academic organisations. He is a member of the International Association of Community Development (IACD), Scotland; the Community Development Association (CDA), Colombia; the Association for Sustainable Development and Communities Integration of Nigeria (ASDCIN); and the Nigerian National Council for Adult and Non-formal Education (NNCAE).
The new Head of the Department of Adult Education has also served as an internal and external examiner to universities within and outside Nigeria. He is a visiting scholar, consultant to several non-governmental organisations and labour unions, and editor of a number of academic journals. His scholarly contributions have earned him invitations to present papers at international conferences in Scotland, the United States and other countries.
Professor Olumide Ephraim Olajide has participated in numerous local and international capacity-building programmes on Community Development, Non-formal Education and Income-Generating Activities. He has travelled extensively to the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, Angola, Botswana, Ghana and the Benin Republic for academic and professional engagements.
