The Oyo State chapter of Community to Community (C2C) for Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for intensifying regional security collaboration aimed at strengthening border security and tackling terrorism across West Africa.
The group described the minister’s ongoing diplomatic and military engagements in the Republic of Benin as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing transnational security threats through enhanced cooperation with neighbouring countries.
General Musa, who is on a three-day working visit to Cotonou, Republic of Benin, stressed the need for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) to work together in combating terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organised crime and maritime insecurity.
According to the Defence Minister, the evolving security challenges facing the region require stronger intelligence sharing, closer military coordination and sustained collaboration among West African nations.
“The threats confronting our region neither recognise nor respect national borders. They demand closer coordination, sustained intelligence sharing and practical cooperation among neighbouring states. We must build a security framework that is equal to the task of confronting terrorism, violent extremism, cross-border crime and maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea,” he said.
As part of his engagements, General Musa visited Nigerian troops stationed at Togbin, where he conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of military personnel and the continuous enhancement of their operational capabilities.
He noted that the sacrifices of the troops remain critical to Nigeria’s national security as well as the country’s contribution to regional peace and stability.
The Defence Minister also paid a visit to the Nigeria House in Cotonou, where he was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Mrs. Mopelola Ibrahim.
Reacting to the development, the Oyo State chapter of C2C praised General Musa’s proactive approach to regional security, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s borders and fostering collective efforts to restore peace across West Africa.
The group reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration with neighbouring countries would further enhance security, promote regional stability and create a safer environment for economic growth and development.
