Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) are already under fire after another poor outing on Sunday, drawing 1-1 with Ikorodu City at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
Sodiq Ibrahim had given the Oluyole Warriors an early lead, but Ikorodu’s Adelani equalised before the break. The result leaves 3SC with just two points from a possible nine, marking their worst start to a league campaign in at least four seasons.
The disappointing run comes despite sweeping changes made just two months ago. Governor Seyi Makinde dissolved the club’s former board and technical crew, appointing Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami as Chairman and unveiling Nurudeen Aweroro as Head Coach in July 2025. Aweroro, who arrived with his trusted backroom staff, was expected to usher in a new era of progress and stability for the Ibadan-based club. Instead, the Oluyole Warriors appear to be sinking deeper into crisis.
A look back at the club’s recent history paints a contrast. In the 2024/2025 season, 3SC secured five points from their first three matches, with one victory and two draws. The 2023/2024 season started even stronger, yielding six points from two wins and a single loss. Even in 2022/2023, when the team managed only two points from their opening fixtures, the performances came against tougher opposition and carried more fight.
Similarly, in the 2021/2022 season, they earned two points from three games with two draws and one loss, but again with more resilience than is being seen now.
By comparison, this season’s tally feels even more worrying, as the team has failed to make home advantage count and shows little momentum under its new leadership. The much-publicised restructuring, which many fans had hoped would reposition the club for success, is instead beginning to look like a false dawn.
For supporters, the frustration is growing rapidly. Rather than progress under Makinde’s intervention, Shooting Stars appear to be regressing, raising urgent questions about the competence of the new management. Is Nurudeen Aweroro the right man for the job? Has the new board misfired? Or is 3SC heading for yet another turbulent and disappointing season?
For now, the answers remain unclear. What is certain, however, is that the Oluyole Warriors are already testing the patience of their loyal fan base, and unless immediate improvements are made, this season could go down as one of the club’s most underwhelming in recent memory.
