Thousands of residents of Oyo State on Thursday benefited from a multi-billion-naira empowerment programme organised by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari as political leaders, traditional rulers, and beneficiaries praised the lawmaker for what they described as one of the biggest constituency interventions in Oyo State.
The empowerment programme, tagged the “Renewed BAFHOPE Mega Empowerment Programme and Constituency Briefing,” held at the Soun Stadium, Ogbomoso, attracted a large crowd of supporters, APC leaders, community stakeholders, artisans, traders, youths, and market women from across Oyo North Senatorial District and Oyo State in general.
The event marked the fifth edition of the initiative organised by the senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Items distributed during the programme included 200 motorcycles, 500 sewing machines, 500 grinding machines, 150 deep freezers, 100 generators, and 40 cars, alongside cash grants reportedly worth billions of naira.
Speaking at the event, Senator Buhari said the empowerment initiative was aimed at improving livelihoods, reducing unemployment, and supporting small businesses across Oyo North and other parts of the state.
He noted that the intervention formed part of his commitment to grassroots development and inclusive representation.
According to him, empowering constituents economically remains one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty and stimulate local economic growth.
The senator also used the occasion to present a constituency briefing, highlighting projects and interventions facilitated across the senatorial district in areas including education, infrastructure, healthcare, youth development, and social welfare.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed appreciation to the lawmaker, describing the programme as impactful and life-changing.
Many of them said the support exceeded their expectations and would help improve their businesses and family income.
Some beneficiaries and political supporters openly called on Senator Buhari to contest the Oyo State governorship seat in 2027, arguing that his style of grassroots empowerment and community engagement demonstrated leadership capacity.
Traditional rulers at the event also commended the senator for sustaining development initiatives in Oyo North.
The Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, praised Senator Buhari’s commitment to the welfare of the people, describing the empowerment programme as commendable and beneficial to ordinary residents.
“It is obvious that he loves the people of Oyo North, and this is commendable. It is beyond my expectation,” the monarch said.
The royal father further prayed for the senator, saying, “The grace of God that brought you here will take you to greater places. Your heart desires shall be granted.”
The event was attended by APC stakeholders, political associates, youth groups, women organisations, and community leaders from across Oyo North Senatorial District.
