Some councilors in Oluyole Local Government Area have accused the council chairman, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, of sidelining the legislative arm and engaging in alleged mismanagement of council resources.

In a document reportedly signed by concerned councilors, the chairman was said to have expended funds earmarked for road grading without prior deliberation with the legislative arm. The lawmakers alleged that despite passing a resolution for the repair of the council’s grader, the chairman opted to hire a grader from an external source without their consent.

“When the fund was released for grading, there was no legislative input. He just went ahead and rented a grader,” the statement read.

The councilors also raised concerns over the handling of the state government’s adhoc employment scheme, claiming that the chairman allegedly replaced existing staff with new recruits believed to be loyalists and relatives.

Allegations were also made concerning land allocations in areas like Toll-Gate, Esu Oso, and Alomoja. The lawmakers claimed that residents paid up to ₦200,000 for land allocations allegedly coordinated by the chairman and his associate, Azeez Babalola, but many of the allocations were later voided by the state government.

“Many residents paid without council approval, and the lands were later revoked without compensation,” the lawmakers said.

Accusations of political exclusion were also raised. The councilors alleged that during official visits to some wards, especially Wards 4 and 10, the chairman bypassed the elected councilors and instead invited his loyalists from other areas.

An alleged “fake empowerment” scheme was also mentioned. Some beneficiaries reportedly claimed they paid for certificates and training without receiving the promised support.

During the last Ileya celebration, concerns were also raised over the sharing formula used for festival funds, with some councilors alleging that the chairman altered the agreed template without consultation.

The lawmakers further alleged harassment of Hon. Waheed Akintayo (Ilumoka), a state legislator from the area, stating that the council chairman had allegedly made derogatory remarks aimed at discrediting the lawmaker at political meetings.

The councilors are calling on relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and ensure due legislative process is restored in the council.

Efforts to reach Engr. Akeem Olatunji for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The Bada title is one of the notable positions within the Ibadan traditional hierarchy, with a legacy rooted in the city’s historical governance system.

Mrs. Nancy Bassey Olayinka Muraina Without exaggeration, is the definition of beauty and brains within the Oyo State Civil Service. It is no surprise that she was honoured with the Civil Service Award of Excellence by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

Retirement, they say, marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. But for some, like Mum, as I fondly call her, it is not merely an end , it is a timeless echo of impact, of lives transformed, and of a legacy etched into the hearts of those she touched.

From the very first day our paths crossed, she did not just see me , she believed in me. She welcomed me not as a stranger, nor merely as a subordinate, but as a son. In her, I found a role model who led with wisdom, a teacher who generously shared knowledge, a coach who inspired growth, a counselor who listened deeply, and above all, a benefactor whose generosity knew no bounds.

Throughout my years at the University of Ibadan, Mum remained a steadfast pillar of strength. In moments when I felt overwhelmed and on the verge of giving up, she stood firm. She checked on me regularly, encouraged me consistently, and made sure I never walked my journey alone.

Even after earning my first degree, when I contemplated abandoning my academic journey, Mama Nancy refused to let me stop. She encouraged me to apply for a Master’s program and in a gesture I will never forget. She paid for the application form herself and rest is history.

One of the most defining moments in my life came when I received an appointment letter from the Oyo State Government. Initially, I was discouraged by the modest salary figures and uncertain whether to accept the offer. But Mama Nancy would not let me throw away that opportunity. With unwavering belief and wisdom, she guided me through it, even helping me prepare my acceptance letter ,a gesture that changed the trajectory of my life.

As Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Youth Agency, she served with remarkable dedication, championing causes that empowered young people and creating platforms for future leaders to thrive. She didn’t just implement programs , she built people. And I am proud to be one of the many whose lives she helped shape.

Mum, your retirement may signal the end of your official service, but your legacy continues to shine in every youth you’ve mentored, in every life you’ve uplifted, and in every corner of Oyo State that has felt your impact.

Thank you for being my light. Thank you for being our light. May your days ahead be filled with the joy you so generously gave, the peace you always stood for, and the love you never ceased to share.

A long abandoned borehole facility at Abibemori Compound, Agugu, Ibadan, has been renovated and commissioned by Hon. Abiola Akinloye, providing much-needed access to clean water for residents of the area.

The water facility, located behind the Islamic Primary School in Agugu, had been in a state of disrepair until Hon. Akinloye’s timely intervention.

According to Mr. Dauda Ajani, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ward 9, the lawmaker was informed about the breakdown last Thursday. He immediately visited the site, ordered renovation works, and ensured the facility was fully restored within just three days.

“This swift response demonstrates Hon. Akinloye’s unwavering commitment to the community’s welfare, and it deserves commendation,” Mr. Ajani remarked during the commissioning ceremony.

Hon. Akinloye, in his address, stated that the renovation was part of his continued efforts to address the basic needs of his constituents. He emphasized that the initiative was directly inspired by the concerns raised by residents during his community outreach programs. The renovated borehole is expected to serve a significant number of households in the Islamic Agugu area, providing a reliable source of clean and safe drinking water.

Leader of the House in the Ibadan North East Legislative Council, Hon. Abdulmajeed Adekola Igbalajobi, lauded the intervention, urging residents to take proper care of the facility to ensure its longevity.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Sola Owolabi, Member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, commended the lawmaker’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the people and called for the judicious use of the borehole by the community.
