Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday donated cash relief worth of Ten Million Naira to those that were affected by the fire incident that occurred at the Moniya market.

This is with respect to the promise made when he inspected the scene of the incident a few weeks ago.

The Chairman Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Tailored Adedigba Jimoh while distributing the cash relief expressed his appreciation to the governor for his humanitarian gesture towards the people of his local government. He said the money had been channeled to the victims based on the losses of each individual. He also appreciated Makinde for the food palliatives recently distributed by the governor in Akinyele local government. He prayed that Almighty God continues to guide him right.

The babaloja of Akinyele Local Government; Alh. Basiru Adegbenle, the Baale Oja of the oja-age market; Alh Maroof Akintola and all the beneficiaries of the cash relief acknowledged the governor’s gesture towards them, most especially the quick response of the relief materials and prayed for God’s protection over the governor and his family.

They appreciated the chairman for following in the footsteps of the governor by distributing the cash as received.

In attendance were the members of the Caretaker Committee of Akinyele local government, principal officers of the local government, PDP leaders in Akinyele local government, security apparatus, and some members of the public.

A former House of Representatives Member, Honourable Dapo Lam Adesina has distributed face shields and face masks to members of his constituency most importantly the motorcycle riders.

According to Hon. Dapo Lam, this first phase of the distribution is a token to support the people in protecting them from getting infected with Covid-19 virus and also since it is now an offence to go to public places with a a face mask.

“The face shield is majorly for motorcycle riders while the face mask which is locally made in Ibadna is meant for individuals” He said.

The executives of Accomoran riders, Aromolaran junction in a show of appreciation thanked Hon Dapo Lam for thinking about his people, in less than a year after leaving office.

“We must say that this gesture came as a shock to all of us because none of us expected these gifts after he had left office. This is indeed a display of strange character as against the normal way of our politicians.

” On behalf of all members of Accomoran riders, Aromolaran junction, we thank him for this wonderful gesture and we pray God to continue to uplift him and answer his prayers”

The first batch was said to have been distributed few days ago while the second batch is to be distributed on Wednesday 27th May, 2020.

4 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Oyo state.

This is contained in a tweet by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday Night, 25th May 2020.

According to NCDC, 229 new cases were recorded with 90 cases coming from Lagos State.

The total number of covid-19 cases recorded in Nigeria now is 8068, 2311 discharged and 233 dead.

A former Chief of Staff to Governor Ajimobi, Dr. Gbade Ojo, has hailed Governor Makinde’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic in the state as the best.

Dr. Gbade stated this without mincing words while featuring on a Yoruba political program at 32FM on Monday.

Aside from commending Makinde’s efforts to halt the spread of dreaded coronavirus, Gbade Ojo also threw his weight behind the request of the state government to obtain an N20bn loan which the Oyo State House of Assembly approved.

He said: “The approach of the present government in Oyo State on Covid-19 is the best. Those clamoring for lockdown doesn’t understand governance and peculiarity of each state.”

There is no government that is serious and wants to achieve something that will not borrow money with the present economic reality.

In a bid to ensure that the people of Afijio Local Government Area get relieved of the coronavirus pandemic, Honourable Oladipupo Diekola, a 2019 House of Assembly Aspirant has distributed palliatives to ease their burden.

Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, has put to rest the speculations of rift between him and Governor of the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

Olaniyan, who described the relations between him and his boss as cordial, said he has chosen to disregard all those who want to cause disaffection and rancor between them.

The Deputy Governor spoke during a chat with journalists in the state, who were at his residence to celebrate Sallah with him.

Speaking on achievements of the administration, which would be a year in days, the Deputy Governor noted that there is no need to begin to banter figures or trade words with those who don’t believe in the modest achievements of the Makinde-led administration.

He added but for the novel pandemic which is slowing things down across the world, various innovations and efforts in the areas of education, agriculture, infrastructure and health among others would have been more obvious even for the blind to see.

Olaniyan said: “For the one year in office, if the APC says we are not doing anything, fine. Let it be. The Yoruba has a saying that you can never impress your haters. But the good people of Oyo state knows that we are doing something.

“When you are trying to reset an already battered economy, battered administration and everything battered, when you are trying to reset, it is not just as you get there that you start the movement.

“There are a lot of things going on now, if not for coronavirus, if our schools are to be up and running, as it is suppose to run, this year WAEC and JAMB, you would have seen that we are doing something. Those areas are not things you can easily see because they are intangible, at least for a while.

“If I start planning on education now, before you can see the effect, it might take sometimes. I can assure you that we are doing something. Even go to Agric, many things are not seen and they can not be seen on the pages of newspapers. Whoever is saying that we are not doing anything will wait till when he will see it, but we are doing a whole lot. There are a lot of innovation”.

“If you come to security, there are innovations. When they say we are not doing anything, we are doing something.”

When asked about insinuations his experience in public service was causing issues with some people in the Makinde government, Olaniyan said he doesn’t see the need for such.

“The relationship between myself and the governor is very cordial. But, if some people somewhere feels threatened or afraid, which I don’t even see any reason for that, that is best known to such people.

“But, to the best of my knowledge, Seyi Makinde is the Governor of Oyo state and Remi Olaniyan is the deputy governor of Oyo State.

“On my last birthday, the card Governor Makinde gave me has the inscription, ‘My Co-Pilot’, and that is it. Believe me, anybody can say whatever they like. Even at the national level, it does happen.

“At a time, they were saying that, President Busari and Vice President Osinbajo are not together. In our state, they said Seyi Makinde is not carrying along his deputy governor in governance.

“At a point, people say I should denounce it and call a press conference to talk about it but I told them that I am not going to do that. I told them that, when they were accusing Buhari on his relationship with Osinbajo, I asked that did anyone ever see or hear Osinbajo call a press conference to denounce such.”

He added: “Somebody told me that the rumour can be from our party, PDP and I told him that it could also be from the opposition APC. Or even from an insider. If Seyi Makinde gives me an assignment as his deputy and I didn’t carry it out, then one can say that we are not on the same page, but as the deputy Governor, it is only when the governor is not there that I can be there on his directive.

“Governance is not a straight jacket thing like people think. Everywhere all other the world you find people who wants to cause disaffection. They can be here too, but as far as I am concerned, I drew up an equation and equate them to zero as not existing.

“To the best of my knowledge, we have the Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and myself as the deputy governor. I don’t know of any other person. So, if they are existing, and their existence will continue to cause commotion, why can’t we take them as non -existing. But, we don’t have problem between ourselves.

“People should just take things easy. And all these things are happening because there is no fund. Because the little funds we have is being competed for by so many heads. You couldn’t even imagine how we are managing to pay salary, so please bear with us.

“Those by the corner causing trouble, that’s their own work. Let them be, but we thank God that they cannot destabilise us.”

The controversial medical and investigative journalist, Dr. Kemi Omololu Olunlonyo has posted a video on YouTube where she boasted of winning incumbent Governor of Oyo, Seyi Makinde if she contest against him come 2023. Although, the broadcast was meant to educate the general public about the coronavirus pandemic in the country and in the world.

In the video, the Kemi Olunloyo who is daughter to former governor of the state, Omololu Olunloyo spoke at length about how some Nigerians who don’t even know her, perceive her as ‘one mad crazy woman’ because their friends told them so. She said this is a reason she feels Nigeria itself has been wrink, as people do not find out things about others, but they listen to what other people say tothem and then they make perceptions up, of who they are.

She also brought up the issue of Oyo state and about how people are abusing her.

In the video, she said: ” Oyo state is in a pandemic mode now, and i see people abusing me. Telling me Seyi is the best governor you have, Seyi may have been a good governor starting up but with this pandemic, I’m not saying he’s a bad governor, he’s really handling it very poorly. I feel like, when Seyi contracted the virus and recovered, he shouldn’t have been at the top of that task force. He should have appointed somebody at the top of thw task force, and preferably a medical doctor. That’s where UCH is, somebody could have been there. Even though UCH’s medical director also contracted it, there has to be one doctor in that whole Ibadan. Okay, if Seyi had put me at the top of the task force, i wouldn’t have taken it. It belongs to a medical doctor who has a lot of experience in microbiology. Did you know that ? But he still made himself the head of the task force. “

She went on and on, talking about how Africa would soon experience the full force of the virus like the USA, Italy, and Brazil, alleging that South Africa’s health care system has already collapsed as it holds the record for the most coronavirus cases in the continent.

It was towards the end of the video, that she made a bold statement to those people who sit at home and just abuse her that she could become the next governor of Oyo state if she decides to run in 2023.

” Some of you sitting down there and abusing me, do you know that i ran in 2023, against Seyi Makinde for governor of Oyo state, I’ll probably win. You know why, because I’m popular, and what would win me that governorship seat is the popular vote. And then I’m a woman, almost every woman would vote for me, and then I’d probably be the first female governor in Nigeria ‘elected’. “

The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, on Sunday, relaxed the existing curfew imposed on the state in respect of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic to between 8.p.m. and 5 a.m.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, confirmed that the decision was reached at the COVID-19 Task Force meeting presided over by the governor on Sunday.

According to the statement, the state has so far recorded 233 COVID-19 positive cases, while 171 of them are active cases.

It stated that a number of creative measures were approved for implementation by the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), which coordinates the operations of the thematic segments of the containment drives.

One of such is the approval of a facility in Ibadan for use as observation and isolation centre for a category of patients after thorough reviews.

“The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force headed by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde has approved that the curfew currently in force in the state runs from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The new directive replaces the initial order which pegs the curfew at between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“Agreement has been struck with the management of a facility in Ibadan to provide bed spaces for a number of positive cases, whose status have been well considered by the experts,” the statement read.

It advised farmers in the state to take advantage of the decision to stop the curfew at 5 a.m. to enhance their farming activities.

According to the statement, the state government is also wrapping up further renovation and face-lifting activities at its Isolation centres located at Agbami, Jericho, Ibadan, Igbo-Ora, Ogbomoso, Saki and Aawe, near Oyo town.

Besides, the statement also indicated that the planned community testing, which could not be kickstarted at the weekend owing to the festivities and public holidays, would commence by the end of the week.

The Task Force stated that training of health workers who will participate in the exercise will commence in the 10 locations after the holidays.
