The ambition of the 2023 PDP candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Skido, has been sidelined as Governor Seyi Makinde reportedly picked his Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Fola Oyekunle (popularly known as Fola Don), as the party’s candidate for the upcoming rerun election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, August 16, 2025, for the bye-election following the death of Hon. Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban), the APC lawmaker who represented the constituency until his passing in July 2024.
Many within the PDP expected Skido to return as the party’s flagbearer, having contested the seat in the last election and polled a strong number against the APC. His supporters believed he deserve a second shot at the seat.
But Governor Makinde has instead thrown his weight behind Fola Don, a former lawmaker who represented the constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly during the 9th Assembly and now serves in the Governor’s Office.
This evening the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Seun Adelore, has formally resigned his membership from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
“He cited what he described as “deep-seated injustice within the party, a lack of reward for loyalty, and a growing departure from democratic principles.”
The APC, which held the seat until the death of Jagaban, is yet to officially name a replacement candidate.
