Barely days to the scheduled bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, the Oyo State Government is set to officially name its Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Samonda after the late Hon. Prince Olaide Adewale Akinremi, popularly known as “Jagaban.”

The event, organised by the State Government and Akinremi Legacy Forum in collaboration with the Ibadan North Local Government, will take place on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, at 11:00 a.m. along Dominican University Road, Samonda, Ibadan.

According to the organisers, the estate, now to be known as Hon. Prince Olaide Akinremi GRA, is being named in honour of the late lawmaker’s service and contributions to the constituency and Oyo State at large. APC chieftain, Oloye Fijabi, will serve as the Father of the Day at the ceremony.

Hon. Akinremi, born on 1 October 1972, was a two-term member of the House of Representatives who represented Ibadan North under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from 2019 until his death on 10 July 2024.

Until his death, he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions and was widely known for his grassroots mobilisation, philanthropy, and political influence in Ibadan North.

His death left the House seat vacant, prompting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to schedule a bye-election for later this month.

The unveiling ceremony is expected to draw political leaders, community stakeholders, government officials, and family members of the late Akinremi.

Ibadan, Nigeria – In commemoration of International Youth Day 2025, Mogaji Olajuwon Enitan Subair has issued a strong call for a redefinition and proper recognition of “youth” in Nigeria, stressing that it is not just a demographic label, but a defining period in human development that demands productivity, creativity, and responsibility.

“Youth is not just a tag,” Mogaji Olajuwon stated. “It is a period in life when we are expected to put our brains to work, innovate, create, and step into responsibility. It is not a class without age limits, and it is not a political tool to control or influence the younger generation.”

Highlighting Nigeria’s unique challenge, Mogaji Olajuwon pointed to the growing dysfunction in leadership and representation of young people. “In our country, the individuals who publicly identify as ‘youth’ in leadership and politics are often far beyond the recognized youth age bracket anywhere else in the world. This misrepresentation has delayed progress, misplaced priorities, and deprived genuine young people of the opportunity to lead and shape the future,” he said.

The Mogaji called for a cultural and political shift where leadership roles and youth-focused positions are filled by people who truly belong to that demographic. “We must allow each generation to perform according to its age, capacity, and class. Older generations should not parade as youths. Instead, they should mentor, guide, and create space for the younger ones to perform,” he emphasized.

He concluded with a message to young people across Nigeria and beyond:
“This is your time. Take responsibility, be productive, and let your creativity lead the way. The future is built by those who step forward and make their time count.”

Call to Action
Mogaji Olajuwon is urging the Federal Government, state governments, political parties, and civil society organizations to adopt a globally accepted definition of “youth” in Nigeria’s laws, policies, and leadership criteria. This reform, he noted, would ensure that youth representation is authentic, opportunities are fairly distributed, and Nigeria’s future leaders are truly drawn from its young generation.

PRESIDENT TINUBU REAPPOINTS DANKAKA AS FCC CHAIRMAN, NAMES SECRETARY AND OTHER COMMISSIONERS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Muheeba Dankaka as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission for a second five-year term.

President Tinubu also appointed Mohammed Musa as the Commission’s secretary while retaining Kayode Oladele from Ogun as commissioner.

Oladele, a former House of Representatives member, was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024. He served as the commission’s acting chairman following the expiration of Dankaka’s first-term tenure.

The President renewed the appointment of Lawal Ya’u Roni, Abubakar Atiku Bunu and Eludayo Eluyemi, representing Jigawa, Kebbi and Osun States, for a second term.

The All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has described the passing of the Assistant Coach of the Shooting Stars Sports Club, Mr. Akin Olowookere, as most shocking and devastating as it happened at a time when his service were more needed in the quest to return the team to the path of glory.

The newly appointed coach was reported to have slumped and died immediately on the pitch at the early hour of Monday during a training session with the rest of the soccer team at Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun state.

In a statement issued today and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC lamented Olowookere’s death which it noted was a great loss not only to the family of the deceased but also the 3Sc family and the global soccer community.

“We had noted the enthusiasm and passion with which the new coaching crew of the Oluyole Warriors accepted the offer to serve our darling team as it was expected that they would change the record of 3Sc’s poor performance in the last 26 years with coach Olowookere playing a key role but the unfortunate thing happened and the man (Akin Olowookere) lost his life in active service.

“Our deepest condolences go the family of the deceased, entire management and staff l as well as supporters of the Oluyole Warriors across the globe. May God rest his soul and grant his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.” APC stated.

The new Assistant Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club, Ibadan, Oyo State, Akin Olowokere, on Monday morning, slumped and died.

He was one of the recently appointed coaches 3SC.

As of press time, there were no official reports on what led to his death.

However, eyewitnesses told PUNCH Online in Ibadan, the state capital, that “he slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session and was rushed to the hospital.

“He was, however, confirmed dead at the hospital where he was rushed to.”

It was further gathered that the former Sunshine Stars of Akure player and later tactician went down while in action, attracting medical attention immediately, after which he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

He was recently unveiled as one of the coaches of the Oluyole Warriors after the club parted ways with the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching crew.

The soft-spoken gaffer was for years a regular player with his state club, Sunshine Stars of Akure, before taking up a coaching job.

He recently served as an assistant coach with the club, under head coach Edith Agoye.
