Engr. Aderemi Olaniyan, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, and Oloye Lekan Alabi, the Maye Olubadan of Ibadanland were present when Tammy and Timmy foods launched a new depot for its headline product, Smartees Vitality vegetable oil, on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, which doubles as a birthday celebration gala for the company’s founder, Adeogun Tunrayo Moslemat, Oloye Alabi lauded the celebrant for her illustrious nature.

“A few weeks ago, His Excellency reminded me that we were somewhere seven years ago and I was surprised he remembers. It’s the same way everything we do today will be history tomorrow. And history never forgets,” Oloye Alabi, who cut the ribbon on the facility, said.

Speaking further, Oloye Alabi praised the company for the quality of their products across board.

“I am not saying this to advertise her product for her because she did not even send me to do that. But the truth is that she only sells quality stuffs. Her vegetable oil products, for instance, are free of cholesterol,” he added.

In her remark, the company’s founder, Adeogun explained that the rationale behind the launch of the facility and product is to provide quality vegetable oil products for people at an affordable rate.

“The assumption is that vegetable oil products called ‘aburo’ are substandard but that’s not true. It’s the same product they called imported that you’ll find in what they call ‘aburo’. The only difference is the packaging. It’s why we are doing this.

“Smatees Vitality is here to show us that you can get quality oil at an affordable rate. Our vegetable oil product is coming from a dispenser that is of top quality and is in tandem with NAFDAC’s standard,” she noted.

She added that the recycle-friendly nature of the product also make it more environmentally-friendly than imported products.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Chief of Staff to Oyo state governor, Hon Kazeem Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire; a gubernatorial hopeful, Chief Taofeeq Adegboyega; Mr Kunle Busari and members of ATM Foundation.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, has dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag-off rally for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election as nothing more than a music concert aimed at entertaining traders at Bodija Market.

Speaking on Saturday, Olopoeyan said the rally, held on Friday, confirmed his belief that the APC and its candidate, Olawale Murphy, would lose the August 16 bye-election.

He explained that while he had earlier refrained from predicting the outcome of the election when asked, the emergence of Murphy as the APC candidate, coupled with the fact that Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, is leading the campaign, has convinced him that the party’s chances are slim.

“After watching their campaign flag-off yesterday, I know they will surely lose the election come August 16,” he declared.

Olopoeyan criticized the APC’s choice of candidate and the absence of key party figures such as Senator Teslim Folarin and Senator Sharafa Alli at the rally. According to him, this indicates a lack of unity within the party.

“Oyo APC failed in its expectations even before choosing a candidate for the bye-election. Now, important stakeholders are not part of the campaign activities. They have left it to Adelabu and his team, who have never won any elections,” he said.

“It is inappropriate for someone like Adelabu, who has repeatedly failed in past elections, to be leading the bye-election campaign for Wale Murphy, who himself has lost twice. Voters will not take them or their party seriously,” Olopoeyan said

The PDP stalwart contrasted the APC’s campaign with that of his party, noting that the PDP candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, is a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and enjoys the backing of Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as the goodwill of PDP leaders and members.

“With the support of Governor Makinde and the resilience of PDP stakeholders, it will be easy for Folajimi to record a landslide victory on August 16. Those campaigning for Folajimi have far more election success than those campaigning for Murphy,” Olopoeyan stated.

He concluded that with the APC’s internal divisions and lack of strong leadership in the campaign, the bye-election would be “a walkover” for the PDP.

The Chairman and Sole Administrator of Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS), Dr. Ibrahim Oladeji, popularly known as Dikko, has appealed to residents of Ibadan North Local Government to rally behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Folajimi Oyekunle, in the House of Representatives by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Speaking in Ibadan on Friday, Dikko urged constituents to turn out in large numbers, saying the election was an opportunity to secure “proactive and people-focused” representation at the National Assembly.

“This is not just about a by-election,It’s about choosing a representative who truly understands the needs of Ibadan North and has the capacity to deliver. Folajimi Oyekunle has been tested and trusted. He is one of us, and we need to stand firmly behind him.”he said

Dikko described Oyekunle as a youth-friendly and competent candidate whose victory would strengthen Governor Seyi Makinde’s development agenda, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, infrastructure, and social welfare.

He also underscored Ibadan North’s political and economic significance in Oyo State, stressing the need for effective representation in Abuja.

“As citizens of Ibadan North, this is our opportunity to shape our future,” he said. “Let us all come out on August 16, cast our votes, and make sure our voices are heard loud and clear.”

University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, is facing public outrage after an Instagram post by a grieving mother alleged that her five-month-old son, born with a heart defect, died following a sustained medication overdose under the hospital’s care.

In a series of posts with video evidences on her Instagram handle @ms.abim, identified as Princess Adepoju Ambimbola Juliahnah, the mother accused UCH of “gross negligence” after her baby, Folajimi, the surviving twin from birth was allegedly given twice the prescribed dose of Captopril, a heart medication, for 17 consecutive days.

According to her account, the infant’s cardiologist prescribed 2.5 mg daily of Captopril to help manage his condition before surgery. However, she claims that an intern pharmacist dispensed 4 mL daily of a 6.25 mg/5 mL solution, amounting to 5 mg daily, double the intended dose.

“I even questioned him and he said he put the right amount on the drug already,” she wrote.

“No one caught it. No one admitted the error. Until I noticed reduced urination, and then my baby went 12 hours without peeing. He never remained the same since he had his overdose.”

The mother says the overdose led to kidney distress, from which her son never recovered. She described the hospital’s handling of the matter as marked by “silence, no apology, no compassion.”

She alleged that after raising the issue with the Head of the Pharmacy Department, her follow-up messages were ignored until she persisted. The eventual response, she claims, was: “I’ll advise you to let it go. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

“Let it go?” she wrote. “Let go of the fact that my surviving twin was overdosed under your care? Let go of watching him slip away while you showed no remorse?”

The post, which has since gained traction on social media, accuses UCH of failing in its duty of care and calls for justice for her late son.

Meanwhile, this publication understands that as of press time, UCH has not issued an official public statement addressing the allegations.

The allegations have stirred widespread criticism online, with Nigerians calling for an independent investigation, better oversight of medical interns, and stronger patient safety protocols in teaching hospitals.

Hon. Dauda Raheem, former leader of Egbeda Local Government Legislative Arm, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 elections.

He made the declaration at a carnival-like event held on Friday in Ibadan, Egbeda Local Government area of Oyo State.

Raheem hinged his ambition on his legislative experience, recalling how his tenure brought dividends of democracy to Egbeda residents.

He acknowledged the efforts of the current representative but promised to surpass them with impactful projects.

Raheem said his leadership secured jobs for 120 people, while each councillor under him facilitated employment for three persons in their respective wards, benefiting many households across the local government.

“If elected in 2027, I will bring dividends of democracy to the grassroots, ensuring benefits for men, women, and youths through empowerment, job creation, and sustainable development,” Raheem pledged.

He promised to introduce soft loans for women in small-scale businesses, secure jobs for youths, and ensure equitable resource allocation between Egbeda and Ona-Ara Local Governments for balanced development.

Raheem vowed to work toward creating separate federal constituencies for the two local governments, stressing his commitment to fair representation and addressing peculiar developmental needs in each area.

In his remarks, Hon. Sodiq Akintunde, former Egbeda Local Government Chairman, lauded Raheem’s entry into the race, describing him as an experienced and capable politician needed for progressive representation.

Akintunde recalled Raheem’s outstanding performance during his tenure as legislative leader, commending his focus and resilience during a politically challenging period, which ensured the council’s legislative arm delivered results.

He noted Raheem’s establishment of an ICT Centre, job facilitation for youths, and continued contributions to community development, describing him as reliable, credible and dependable for national representation.

Expressing optimism, Akintunde said the constituency was returning to “the good old ways” of politics and governance, adding that electing Raheem would guarantee better days for the people, especially women.

Q: We recently published a congratulatory article on the nomination of His Excellency, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, in which we described you as the youngest Mogaji in Ibadan. This stirred up mixed reactions, with some people claiming you are not the youngest. Are you aware of this?
A: Yes, I noticed the reactions — both positive and critical. Since my installation as Mogaji of Ile Nla on March 8, 2021, every media publication I’ve featured in has referred to me as the youngest Mogaji in Ibadanland. I don’t know the exact ages of all Mogajis in the land, but I can confidently say I have not met a Mogaji younger than I am. Certainly not within the Association of Mogajis of Ibadanland.

Q: Are you certain about that?
A: I was installed by the late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogunguniso I. While I’ve never publicly disclosed my age — for personal reasons — many people know it. And they know whether or not there’s a Mogaji younger than I am.

Q: How did you become Mogaji of Ile Nla?
A: It’s quite an interesting story, actually. I came to Nigeria for my annual summer vacation in July 2020 and ended up staying longer due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. My plan was to return abroad in January 2021, but then I was approached with the opportunity to become Mogaji of my family compound. I accepted — and that decision sparked some controversy.

Some members split to form a new compound, which I challenged, insisting they were historically part of Ile Nla. It was a tense period, filled with threats and pressure, but I stood my ground. I believe the courage I showed — especially at a young age — made people assume I was older than I actually am.

A: Yes — technically, even though I was unopposed. [Laughs]

Q: Have you heard of Mogaji Adegbola? Reports say he was installed in February 2018 at age 20 — three years before your coronation.
A: Yes, I’ve heard of Mogaji Adegbola — from Mogaji Adanla, actually. I was told he resides in the UK. Interestingly, during my 4.5 years of active involvement in Ibadan’s traditional and cultural affairs, I never met him. But I’d love to meet him someday. That would be what we Yorubas call, “Mo ri eni fi oju jo.” [Laughs]

Q: What’s your opinion on younger people becoming Mogajis?
A: There’s nothing new about it, to be honest. The Olubadan institution is deeply rooted in tradition. The only real innovation proposed in over 200 years was the crowning of the Olubadan-in-Council.

Olubadan Yesufu Kobiowu, for example, became Mogaji at a very young age and moved up the line early as well. So, it’s not unusual. What matters isn’t age — it’s the substance and values one brings. An 18-year-old Mogaji without purpose or service is less impactful than an 80-year-old Mogaji who serves his people and Ibadan with diligence.

Q: Since your installation as Mogaji four years ago, how impactful have you been?
A: I think that’s a rhetorical question. [Smiles] The results speak for themselves. From the start, I commissioned a borehole project for Ile Nla. Through my foundation — the Subair Adelokun Foundation — we’ve offered:
• Free basic education for 100 children
• Academic scholarships
• Employment opportunities and professional recommendations
• Mentorship programmes
• Sports sponsorships

Many of these efforts are public, though I’m not one to showcase everything I do. My focus is on impact, not applause.

Q: Are you a member of any social or elite club in Ibadan?
A: Yes, I’m the Vice President of the prestigious Ibadan Polo Club and a proud member of the Ibadan Distinguished Royal Club.

Q: Finally, how old are you?
A: [Laughs] You’ll have to wait for my next birthday — I plan to mark it with the launch of my book and a celebration of a significant age. But for now, my age is secondary. It would be frivolous to carry the title “youngest Mogaji” without real value. I’d rather be recognized for what I do, not how young I am.
