Ibadan North Local Government Area solely makes up the Ibadan North federal constituency in Oyo state, which is domiciled in the Southwestern geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The LGA is headquartered in the Bodija district of Ibadan.

The Federal Constituency is bordered by the Akinyele-Lagelu, Egbeda-Ona Ara, Ibadan Northwest-Southwest, Ibadan Northeast-Southeast, and Ido-Ibarapa Federal Constituency(ies).

Ibadan North Federal Constituency is an urban centre. It is made up of several districts and streets, such as Bodija, Ashi, Ashi Village, Bashorun, Agodi, Oyelade Crescent, Ladoke Akintola Street, Ire Akari, Bola – St Stephen, Inalende Road, Aladorin, Adeoyo, Oke Apon, Oje, Isale Afa Area, Sabo, Oyo Road, and Sango, among several others. The estimated population of Ibadan North LGA is around one million inhabitants or more, and the vast majority of the area’s dwellers are members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba, English, Pidgin and Hausa languages are commonly spoken in the LGA, while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practised religions. The traditional religion also existed in the federal constituency. The Federal Constituency comprises two Constituencies – Ibadan North Constituency 1 and 2. Notable landmarks in Ibadan North LGA include the University of Ibadan and the University College Hospital, woodwork, and traditional medicine.

Meanwhile, the astonishing, interesting and vast history of Ibadan North, which is mostly entrenched in Ibadan North Constituency I & II, is a major factor that calls for quality and adequate representation in the Federal House of Representatives since the inception of the Fourth Republic, but the political culture and tradition in the area has been a major factor that inhibits such representation until the emergence of the late Prince Musiliu Olaide Akinremi Jagaban and other progressive representatives.

Since after the demise of Akinremi Jagaban, it has called for immediate attention to rescue the federal constituency from substandard representation, which had been a bane of the constituency prior to Akinremi’s emergence.

When we are talking of efficient, quality and pro-people representation, which Ibadan North Federal Constituency deserves through competency, experience, capability, a prominent background such as social and political and the like, we are chanting no other name other than that of the political bigwig and aircraft engineer and accomplished businessman in the country, Honourable Wale Olatunji, popularly known as Murphy.

Murphy is the charismatic leader that Ibadan North Federal Constituency deserves. He is bestowed with vast political experiences and social capital which qualify him to represent the constituents of Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

Aside from his political and social experiences, Murphy is the most competent. He is intellectually resourceful, physically gallant and legislatively loaded. Of course, he can never be a bench warmer in the lawmaking house due to the fact that he is very intelligent, brilliant, articulate, dynamic and wise in nature.

The influence of Murphy in the federal House of Representatives cannot and should not be underestimated due to the fact that, if elected, he will propose so many bills that will change the lives of the people in the federal constituency and Oyo State positively, and he will bring about socioeconomic developments (developmental legislation) to Ibadan North Federal Constituency and beyond.

Moreover, the influential leverage and professional and political prowess of Wale Olatunji Murphy will bring about facilitation of so many developmental and substantial projects to his constituency and Oyo State at large.

Also, it is worthy of note that Murphy is the first and the best among the candidates that want to slug it out in the coming bye-election on Saturday, which Ibadan North Federal Constituency deserves. However, the constituents and respected voters should take cognisance of this in order to elect the best for the Federal Constituency. We cannot afford to lose a vital and eminent representation in the Federal House of Representatives. Let us come out en masse and vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC on Saturday. So, help us, God.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Federal Constituency warmly invites the general public, party faithful, and lovers of good governance to its Final Campaign Rally ahead of the crucial August 16, 2025 bye-election.

The rally procession will kick off at Yemetu, in front of the Ibadan North PDP Party Secretariat, and move in a colourful march to the grand finale venue, Sango Motor Park where the main event will take place.

The event will hold today, Thursday, August 14, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM.

The atmosphere will be electrified by Ibadan’s own Fuji sensation, Alhaji Taye Currency, who will thrill supporters and guests with his signature energetic performance.

This rally will serve as the ultimate show of unity and strength for Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle “Don”, the PDP’s flagbearer, after an extensive and successful ward-to-ward campaign that drew massive support from residents across all twelve wards of Ibadan North.

The Head of the Akinremi Family, Chief Abideen Abiodun Akinremi has expressed deep gratitude to the Oyo State Government and the Executive Governor of Oyo State, H.E Seyi Makinde over the honour done to immortalize their family’s late son, Hon. Prince Olaide Akinremi Jagaban who died in July 2024.

The Seyi Makinde-led government, yesterday honoured late Hon. Akinremi by naming a Government Residential Area (GRA) after him.

In his words, “the honor done on my late brother through the naming of the Prince Olaide Akinremi Jagaban G.R.A at Samonda Ibadan, extends to the entire family, and it is something to be proud of, as the family name will continue to be relevant and remembered within Ibadan North and Oyo State for decades to come” Chief Abiodun said.

He thanked the Oyo State Government for their all time support to their family since the demise of their son, from his burial to his 8 days Fidau last year, and up to his recent 1 year remembrance event, stating that their family acknowledges everything that has been done to support them, and will always reciprocate such good gestures by standing by those who stand by them when it becomes important.

Joining this appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde were also members of Akinremi’s Think Tank and Akinremi Legacy Forum present at the unveiling event which took place at the estate venue in Samonda Ibadan yesterday 13th August 2025.

The Akinremi Legacy Forum understands that goodness can only be repaid with goodness.

For all followers of late Hon. Olaide Akinremi, it is a thing of joy to have Prince Akinremi Jagaban honored in the way the Oyo State Government had done, and such honor deserves applause, praise, commendation and commensurate support.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has congratulated former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, on his appointment as a member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) by President Bola Tinubu.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Media Office and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan.

Alli described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Abass-Aleshinloye’s commitment to public service and the progressive ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He lauded President Tinubu for considering the former ALGON boss worthy of the national assignment, expressing confidence that his vast experience, dedication and track record of excellence would contribute immensely to the effective discharge of the FCC’s mandate.

The lawmaker said that Abass-Aleshinloye has distinguished himself as a grassroots mobiliser, community leader and bridge-builder whose service to humanity has always been anchored on fairness, equity, and justice.

“All Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political affiliation, will benefit from the wealth of knowledge and administrative acumen Prince Abass-Aleshinloye will bring to the FCC. He has the capacity to foster national unity,” Alli said.

Alli also felicitated Abass-Aleshinloye on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a dependable ally, steadfast progressive and passionate advocate of good governance whose life has been dedicated to uplifting others.

He prayed that Almighty God grant the celebrant long life in good health, abundant wisdom, and continuous success in all his endeavours, both in public service and personal life.

The senator urged Abass-Aleshinloye to see his appointment as a call to serve all Nigerians, pledging his own support and that of other well-meaning stakeholders in ensuring that he succeeds in the new role.

As the 2025 bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency holds this Saturday, aspirants from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified efforts on rallying behind their party’s standard-bearer, Hon. ‘Wale Olatunji Murphy.

In a recent radio programme, Dende Oro, hosted by veteran broadcaster, Alhaji Abolade Salami on Fresh 105.9 FM, frontline aspirants from the party shared their perspectives.

Hon. Wasiu Emiola, a veteran politician and seasoned educationist, remarked, “Almighty God is rewarding Murphy now after he was unjustly rigged out by the PDP in 2003 when he contested under the Alliance for Democracy (AD). The PDP candidate, Sarumi, was already crying over his loss before the manipulation took place.”

Emiola, who served as education secretary during the military regime, emphasised, “I urge all teachers and pensioners to support APC and Murphy.” He criticised the PDP’s representation, claiming, “Their candidates have failed Ibadan North Constituency 1 from 2019 to 2023. Why promote someone who lacks the ability to represent our people?”

Hon. Adebayo Taofik Aderogba, mni, a seasoned administrator and labour unionist, noted that while there are 20 aspirants for the House of Representatives ticket, unity is essential. “Once the party makes a choice, all must support the candidate. It’s Murphy’s turn now, and it could be someone else’s tomorrow.”

Hon. Monsuru Adeyemo (Socrates), a communication consultant and grassroots politician, praised Murphy, describing him as a “struggle-tested leader” with the experience needed for impactful projects. He stated, “Our party is democratic, unlike the PDP, which is monocratic. In the PDP, dissent is stifled, while in the APC, we embrace freedom of expression.”

Socrates further asserted, “Murphy is a gallant leader, akin to Akinremi Jagaban. He received Akinremi’s endorsement before the latter’s passing, indicating their shared vision of pro-people leadership for the constituency.”

Criticising the PDP, Socrates added, “The opposition has accepted an unpopular candidate imposed by their leaders. The people of Ibadan North must reject this visionless candidate and the party that has failed them.”

Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare emphasised that the PDP’s violent tactics have contributed to voter apathy in the past. “However, the people are ready to vote for APC this time, driven by the legacy of Akinremi and the shortcomings of the current administration,” he stated.

“The constituents will not waste their votes; they will choose APC and Murphy as their representatives.” Sadare submitted.

Lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East area of Oyo State, Rep Abass Adigun (Agboworin), on Tuesday, threw his weight behind the PDP candidate’s campaign, rallying support from voters in the state, ahead of the bye-election on Saturday.

Agboworin, who also mobilized his team members along participated in the campaign at Ward 3, 4 and 5 of the Ibadan North local government area of Ibadan.

Speaking to the electorate, he urged them to vote for the PDP candidate, citing his proven track record as a tested and trusted politician.

“I have studied Hon. Folajimi DON and realized that he is somebody that has the interest of the people at heart. That is why I know he would not disappoint you as his constituents,” Agboworin stated.

Agboworin emphasized that his endorsement was not just a gesture of goodwill but a promise of tangible support to the candidate when he is.

While saying he cannot wait for the PDP candidate to increase their number in the green Chamber of the National Assembly, the two-term lawmaker assured that he would leverage on his network to support him to ensure dividends of democracy are brought to the people of the constituency.

“After you use your votes to make him win the election, when he gets to the National Assembly, I will use our network to make him knock on doors here and there so that he can be delivering meaningful projects in Ibadan North constituency.

“All the places I go to, I will take him there.” Agboworin stated in his words.

Some members of the PDP and their sympathisers in Oyo State have been sharing in gleeful mockery branded sachets of alcohol drinks sponsored by a vibrant grassroots politician and a well-intentioned partyman of the APC stock, Hon Adams Yusuf.

Hon Adams Yusuf sponsored the branded sachets of alcohol drinks as souvenirs to support the electioneering of Hon Wale Murphy Olatunji, the Ibadan North Rep candidate in the forthcoming By-election. When Oyo PDP could not find any negative reports to use to campaign against APC and its Rep candidate, they resorted to using something mundane to launch a campaign of calumny against the popular APC Rep candidate.

What’s wrong in branding sachets of alcoholic drinks to distribute as souvenirs to those voters who drink the substance? Are PDP the members and their sympathisers saying those who drink alcoholic drinks are louts? Or that the sachets of alcoholic drinks are drinks for louts and never-do-wells? What’s exceedingly specious about the whole thing is that many of those condemning the alcoholic souvenirs line their pockets with sachets of dry gin like sweets and gulp them with reckless abandon. Why the pretence? The same PDP that would drive a truckload of sachets of dry gin to campaign ground for their members and supporters!

What have political parties, including PDP, not branded as souvenirs? They brand sugar in nylon packs. They brand salt in nylon packs. They brand combination of garri, groundnut and sugar in nylon packs? Oyo PDP had once branded cigarette lighters and distributed to voters who smoked cigarettes. These are regular items that political parties brand to distribute as souvenirs to attract voters. This is the reason Hon Adams Yusuf should be commended for his creativity in branding the sachets of alcoholic drinks as souvenirs to support our Rep candidate for Ibadan North Byeelection coming up this Saturday.

Supporters and sympathisers of PDP should find another negative things to criticise APC on. There’s nothing negative about branding sachets of alcoholic drinks as political souvenirs. Oyo State under the administration of Seyi Makinde of the the PDP receives more VAT from alcoholic products, especially the sachet dry gin, than any other products. And this is the same revenue-bringing products that the PDP supporters and sympathisers are condemning. Are these people thinking right at all? To say that a VAT generating product is bad for political souvenirs is a climax of folly.

An impressive display of unity marked the endorsement of Hon. Wale Olatunji Murphy, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in this Saturday bye-election of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, during a solidarity gathering in the Sabo area of Ibadan held on Tuesday, August 11. Members of the Arewa Community, alongside various ethnic groups including Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri, Igbo, and Yoruba, came out in large numbers to show their support.

The Arewa Community welcomed Murphy with warmth, viewing him as a longstanding ally who has significantly contributed to the federal constituency’s development over the years. “We, the Arewa Community, heartily welcome you, Hon. Wale Olatunji Murphy. You’re an age-long partner-in-progress who has Immensely contributed to the progress and development of our federal constituency, especially this Arewa community, over the years, and we appreciate you for your consistency and service to humanity. Your party, APC, has never disappointed us either. Thank you.

Traditional rulers from the community emphasised the achievements of Prince Musiliu Olaide Akinremi Jagaban and the APC, calling for inclusivity, fairness, and unity in Murphy’s potential representation.

When elected, the community leaders urged Murphy to prioritise women and youth empowerment. They also reiterated the importance of facilitating federal employment opportunities for local youth.

In his address, Murphy expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers and chiefs who received him at the Sarkin Sabo palace. “I thank you, our valued traditional rulers and chiefs, for receiving me at this Sarkin Sabo palace. I thank you, our leaders, and the entire Sabo community for strongly aligning with our great party, APC.

“Let’s continue supporting APC, and please vote for APC this Saturday. Vote for me as your federal representative. By His Grace, I will never let you down.

“My people! Let’s reject PDP. All they know is misappropriating federal allocations under President Tinubu; these funds have not improved local infrastructure or services. This has led to poor drainage, unpaved roads, and inadequate healthcare.
