The newly elected House of Representatives member for Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as *DoN*, has described his victory at Saturday’s bye-election as a triumph of the people’s will and a clear mandate for progress.

In his acceptance statement issued shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner with a landslide, Hon. Oyekunle expressed profound gratitude to the electorate, party stakeholders, and leaders who stood firmly behind him throughout the campaign and election.

“This victory is not mine alone — it belongs to the resilient people of Ibadan North who came out in their numbers to make their voices heard. The will of the people has prevailed, and together, we have made history,” the Rep-elect declared.

He paid special tribute to his father, role model, and political mentor, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering guidance and confidence-building role, which reassured the electorate that their voices would be heard loud and clear.

“I am deeply indebted to Governor Makinde, whose leadership and steadfast belief in participatory governance inspired the people to trust in the democratic process. His influence was pivotal in this victory,” Oyekunle added.

The Rep-elect also commended PDP leaders, party members, and stakeholders for their support, while extending appreciation to security agencies for their professionalism in ensuring a peaceful, credible, and transparent election.

Hon. Oyekunle affirmed that with the “DoNDEAL” now sealed at the polls, the next phase is the task of delivering quality representation and ensuring Ibadan North is never left behind again in terms of federal opportunities, development, and people-oriented policies.

“Our victory comes with responsibility. I pledge to be a representative for all — working tirelessly to bring meaningful development, responsive governance, and a stronger voice for Ibadan North in the National Assembly,” he assured.

Supporters and PDP faithfuls have since continued jubilations across Ibadan North, celebrating what they described as a “new dawn” for the constituency.

The APC Unity Frontiers, a group within the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, has stated that the outcome of the Saturday’s Ibadan North by-election could be replicated in the 2027 gubernatorial elections if the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu gets the party gubernatorial ticket.

The group made this assertion in a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Akindele Olatubosun and secretary, Mr Taiwo Adeniyi on Sunday while reacting to the Ibadan North Bye-election result.

According to the APC Unity Frontiers, Adelabu’s sudden hijack of the party ticket for his person, Hon Olatunji Adewale also known as Murphy costs the party the election.

While calling for free, fair and credible primary election, the group added that if Murphy were to be a neutral person and not someone the Power Minister handpicked, the result of the election would have been otherwise.

The group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of the party at the National level to save the party from any form of hijack which may result in failure in the 2027 general election.

The group said that this assertion is based on the fact that the people Oyo state don’t want to hear anything Adelabu due to his stingyness, arrogance and stubbornness.

“We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the party at the national level to save the party from any form of hijack which may result in failure in the 2027 general election.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as DoN, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the hotly contested Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.

The Returning Officer, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, made the announcement on Saturday at the Collation Centre in Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.

According to the official results, Hon. Oyekunle secured 18,404 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Hon. Adewale Olatunji, widely known as Murphy, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 8,312 votes.

This victory means Oyekunle will succeed the late Hon. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban), whose passing created the vacancy and prompted the bye-election.

The triumph is being celebrated as a historic comeback for the PDP, reclaiming the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat for the first time since 2011.

Excited party supporters flooded the streets in jubilation shortly after the declaration, describing the result as a “coast-to-coast victory” and a reaffirmation of the PDP’s growing popularity in Oyo State.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) delivered victory for his party at his polling unit in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday.

At Polling Unit 022, Ward 3, Oke-Aremo, Senator Alli’s voting center, the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 49 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 31 votes.

Alli, who participated actively in the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the poll, commending both INEC officials and security agencies for maintaining orderliness.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to supporting APC’s victory across Oyo State, adding that the outcome of his polling unit reflected the confidence people repose in the party.

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Hon. Olatunji Adewale, popularly known as Murphy, is in an early lead as against fake results being shared on social media platforms that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as DoN, is leading.

As the collation at the ward levels begins, the APC candidate is ahead of the PDP even as the PDP candidate puts up a good showing in some areas.

A statement by the Campaign Council Committee for the APC candidate urged residents of the federal constituency not to be misled by the antics of the PDP and its candidate.

The statement urged people in the federal constituency to wait for the official final result of the election and not to be confused by fake results being circulated on social media by PDP.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fake result currently in circulation by PDP and its candidate. We want to urge people in the Ibadan North federal constituency to disregard the results and wait for the official final result from INEC.”

Meanwhile, residents and party supporters who witnessed the counting of ballots described the contest at the unit as peaceful and transparent, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducting the process without hitches.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as *DoN*, has secured a resounding victory at his polling unit in today’s bye-election.

At Ward 4, Unit 12, St. John Primary School, Oyekunle polled **79 votes**, defeating his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered **29 votes**.

The outcome reflects DoN’s strong grassroots support in his community, where residents turned out in large numbers to cast their votes despite initial concerns about voter apathy.

Party faithful and supporters erupted in jubilation following the announcement of the results, describing it as a clear indication of the confidence the people of Ibadan North have in Hon. Oyekunle’s leadership and vision.

With the PDP candidate taking the lead by such a wide margin in his unit, attention now shifts to the collation center where the final results across the constituency will be announced.

The House of Representatives bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State, recorded low voter turnout on Saturday, despite early commencement of voting and heavy presence of security operatives.

This publication understands that at Ward 5, Unit 5, Bibilari area of Bashorun, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Odususi Olajumoke Olabisi, cast her vote, commending officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their punctuality and efficiency. She also praised the joint security operatives for maintaining law and order at polling centres.

However, Hon. Odususi expressed concern over the poor voter turnout witnessed in her polling unit. She appealed to eligible voters across the constituency to come out and exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.

Earlier, reports indicated partial road blockage around Bere axis of Ibadan, though security agencies had assured residents of safety and smooth movement within the city.

According to INEC, about 217,980 voters were expected to participate across 512 polling units in the twelve electoral wards of Ibadan North. Five political parties, the PDP, APC, APGA, ADC, and ZLP are contesting the seat, which became vacant following the death of Hon. Olaide Akinremi of the APC in July.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Dr. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, had earlier assured that all sensitive materials, BVAS devices, and election officials were adequately deployed to ensure a transparent and credible poll.

As at the time of filing this report, voting had commenced in several wards, but voter enthusiasm remained low, raising concerns about participation levels in a constituency with one of the largest voting populations in Ibadan.
