JUST IN: Makinde Begins Annual Leave Today

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has commenced his 2026 annual leave today, August 10, 2026, with Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, assuming responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the state during his absence.

The commencement of the governor’s vacation follows the approval earlier granted by the Oyo State House of Assembly after Makinde formally notified the legislature of his intention to proceed on annual leave.

Recall that OYOMIND had earlier reported on July 23, 2026, when the House considered and unanimously approved the governor’s request in accordance with constitutional provisions governing the transfer of executive authority.

According to the schedule communicated to the Assembly, Makinde’s annual leave will run from August 10 to September 11, 2026, after which he is expected to resume official duties on September 14.

With the commencement of the leave today, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal will oversee the affairs of the state and ensure continuity in governance throughout the governor’s absence.

The Assembly had, during its consideration of Makinde’s request, expressed confidence in Lawal’s capacity to provide effective leadership, noting his previous experience in acting in the capacity of governor.

The lawmakers also assured residents that government activities and the implementation of existing policies and programmes would continue without interruption during the period.
