The Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) has introduced a mandatory campaign permit for all political advertising activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that no campaign-related advertisement will be allowed without prior approval from the agency.
The directive was contained in a notice dated June 5, 2026, signed by the Director-General of OYSAA, Oludolapo Esho-Ajanaku, and addressed to the Chairman of the Outdoor Advertising Practitioners Association of Oyo State.
According to the agency, all advertising practitioners must obtain a campaign permit before deploying, displaying or facilitating any political campaign materials for political parties, candidates, campaign organisations or support groups within Oyo State.
The notice stated that the regulation covers campaign rallies, road shows, posters, handbills, flyers, banners, flex materials, billboards, campaign-branded vehicles, public address systems, campaign booths, activation stands, branded T-shirts, caps, souvenirs and other promotional materials.
OYSAA said the policy is aimed at ensuring orderliness in campaign activities, improving public safety, protecting public infrastructure from damage and maintaining the aesthetic outlook of cities and communities across the state. The agency also said the regulation would guarantee fairness in access to approved advertising spaces while strengthening monitoring and enforcement of campaign advertising rules.
The agency further directed that all practitioners intending to participate in campaign advertising must register on its digital platform, noting that only duly registered and active practitioners would be eligible to undertake campaign advertising within the state.
OYSAA warned that campaign advertising carried out without the required permit or by unregistered practitioners would constitute a violation of its regulations and attract appropriate sanctions in accordance with applicable laws.
The agency also released proposed campaign permit fees for various elective offices as follows:
* Presidential candidates – N50 million
* Governorship candidates – N30 million
* Senatorial candidates – N20 million
* House of Representatives candidates – N5 million
* State House of Assembly candidates – N1.5 million
* Local Government Chairmanship candidates – N2.5 million
* Councillorship candidates – N100,000
The agency urged all stakeholders to comply with the new directive to ensure peaceful, orderly and well-regulated political advertising ahead of the 2027 general elections.
