Animasaun Accuses Oyo Agribusiness Boss, Debo Akande of Bullying, Using DSS for Intimidation

A human rights activist,Idris Animasaun, has accused the Chairman of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, Debo Akande, of using security agencies to intimidate him following a disagreement over social media posts.

Animasaun made the allegation during a podcast interview, where he recounted the circumstances surrounding his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to him, the incident began after a disagreement over an online publication concerning Debo Akande, who serves as the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency. He claimed he was subsequently taken into custody by the DSS, a development that quickly attracted public attention after the news circulated widely on social media.

He further stated that a letter was later submitted to the security agency requesting his release.

Animasaun questioned the involvement of the DSS in what he described as a civil disagreement, arguing that the matter should have been handled by the conventional police authorities rather than a federal intelligence agency.

“Why DSS and not court? That is intimidation,” he said during the interview, alleging that the move amounted to bullying.

As of the time of filing this report, Akande had not publicly responded to the allegation.

The development has sparked conversations online, with observers debating the appropriate role of security agencies in disputes arising from online expression.
