The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, C. Psych., FSSAN, fspsp, has asserted that the UI Faculty of Law is one of the iconic faculties that has been bringing laurels and fame to the university, given the exceptional performances of UI students at the Nigerian Law School.
He made this assertion on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, while receiving the Dean of Law who led the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) 2025 Scholars on a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Three law students of the University of Ibadan namely:
Tomilayo Ebenezer Oyedeji; Victor Oluwagbemiga Ayoola; and Mercy Olaoluwa Olatayo had emerged as BOSAN Scholars for 2025 out of the five scholars designated as such nationwide.
Professor Olapegba said it was a remarkable feat that the UI law students emerged winners out of all the students of the 80 Faculties of Law in Nigerian universities that participated in the competition stating that the university is proud of their achievements.
The DVC added that despite limitations, the Faculty of Law continues to thrive and sustain the tradition of excellence that UI is known for.
He appreciated BOSAN for such a worthy initiative which according to him, stimulates students to strive for excellence.
The Dean of Law, Professor J. O. A. Akintayo said that the achievement laid credence to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking’s declaration of UI Faculty of Law as the best in Nigeria.
He disclosed that the selection of the BOSAN scholars went through a rigorous process which entailed academics and community services, reaffirming the students’ active participation in community services.
According to the Dean, Tomilayo Ebenezer Oyedeji is the Chairman of the Moot and Mock Society, Victor Oluwagbemiga Ayoola is the Chief Justice of the Law Students Society Judiciary and Mercy Olaoluwa Olatayo is the Speaker of the Law Students Representative Council, adding that their participation in community services gave the beneficiaries the leverage to impact society
Professor Akintayo disclosed that the scholarship of one million naira each entails sponsorship for the students’ final year and the law school.
He restated that the recognition is a testament to the outstanding quality of students being produced by the UI Faculty of Law.
