APC Chairman’s Son, Akeem Abas, Emerges Oyo NUJ Chairman

 

Akeem Babatunde Abas, son of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Oyo State, has emerged as the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.

Akeem clinched the top position after securing 143 votes, defeating two other strong contenders Mr. Raji Adebayo, who polled 118 votes, and the outgoing State Secretary of the union, Mr. Sola Oladapo, who recorded 59 votes. A total of 5 votes were declared void in the chairmanship category.

The election, held under a tense but orderly atmosphere at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, featured several other key positions contested by union members across the state.

In the race for Vice Chairman, Mr. Atilola Abiodun emerged victorious with a commanding 205 votes, defeating Mr. Sam Nwanko, who garnered 112 votes.

The contest for Secretary was equally competitive. Temitayo Adu won the seat with 166 votes, while Adeniji Olamide came close with 149 votes. Some votes in this category were also declared void by the electoral committee.

For the position of Treasurer, Khalid Imran secured 140 votes, but was edged out by Moses Morenkeji, who emerged winner with 173 votes, making it one of the most decisive victories of the day.

The polls drew journalists from various chapels across Oyo State, with the two dominant blocs, the Divine Mandate Team and the Great Minds Team, presenting candidates across the different posts.

The congress reaffirmed the Council’s tradition of open contest and internal democratic practice.
