A setback has hit the re-election of Engr Seyi Makinde in the forthcoming 2023 election as an Ace broadcaster, Alhaji Abolade Salami has rejected his nomination to be part of the governor’s campaign committee.
Salami, who is the Group General Manager of FRESH FM Nigeria in a statement released on Thursday night said that he never applied to be part of the Media and Publicity Committee for Governor Seyi Makinde’s second term bid.
OYOMIND gathered that a publication was in circulation on Thursday where Alhaji Abolade Salami alongside some other broadcasters in Oyo State was announced to be part of the Media and Publicity committee of the reelection of Seyi Makinde.
While urging the general public to disregard the misleading publication, he emphasized that he is not a member of any political party and that having spent many years in the broadcasting profession, he will continue to observe strictly, the code and ethics of the profession.
“My attention has been drawn to a publication on the social media that I have been appointed as a member of the Media and Publicity committee for the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde and I hereby decline the offer due to my position as a serving media executive with indepth knowledge of the ethics of my profession.
“I am not a member of any committee whatsoever set up by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde or any of his aides for his re-election or any political activity in any form. I am not a member of any political party and neither am I involved in any political activity in any way.
“With a practice spanning over four decades, I am a seasoned professional, and broadcast journalist of note without any partisan relationship of any kind with any political party while I strictly observe the code and ethics of our profession which forbid partisanship and political leanings.
“The Fresh FM radio station which I work for has a strong policy on objectivity and non-partisanship in its entire operations and would never sacrifice that for anything.
“The general public is hereby advised to disregard the falsehood already trending in the social media and take it with a pinch of salt as I am not permitted by my professional calling to be partisan.”
