Football students of Brightville College, Ibadan, have emerged victorious after defeating Command Day Secondary School in the final league game of the season. Brightville College who have played a total of 21 games as the other teams and have won 14 of the total match played, ended the season with 51 points.
The League season which started since October 2021 featured Brigthville College, Ibadan Grammar School, Government College Ibadan, Command Day Secondary School.
Others are Adem Secondary School, Kings International College and Gofamint High School.
Leks Schools League is an initiative of Leks Sports NG established to create a unifying platform for secondary schools students in different states to participate in football competitions explains Ola Oyinlola, Founder and CEO Leks Sports NG to our correspondent at the Command Day School Sports Complex, where the final match took place.
Oyinlola proceeds to analyse the structure of the competition, “each state is divided into conferences with the outstanding athletes competing at an end of season play offs. The league season runs according to the academic calendar of schools, providing the athletes the opportunity to balance sports and education”.
Oyinlola emphasises the need for a proper bootcamp experience to nurture the talents of young stars across the country. He reckons, “with the schools league, we have created a mentorship program for athletes by providing support from the discovery stage and continuously educating them about potential careers in football.
The Leks Schools League extends across 4 states of the federation, Oyo, Ogun, Oyo and Lagos. When asked if there was any reason for choosing those four states, It was confirmed that there are plans for extension to more states across the country, “this is our first edition and the acceptance has been massive. We started with the Ibadan Conference before moving to Abeokuta, Lagos and Ife. What matter to us is that we understand the importance of what we are doing and we have given hope to young chaps, we won’t rest on our laurel now”.
With Brightville aiming to retain next season, Mukhtar Oladeinde, top scorer hopes GCI can go higher up in the table.
