Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande has made a case for the return of party caucus as one way of improving service delivery by government in the country.
Professor Akande stated that the absence of such a caucus has denied many governments the advantage of wise counsel and inclusiveness that every government deserves.
Professor Akande spoke in Ibadan when he addressed members of the Oyo State Progressives Parliamentarians,an association of former legislators in Oyo State produced by the Progressives parties since 1991.
Professor Akande, who is a gubernatorial hopeful in the All Progressives Congress(APC) stated that if given the opportunity to serve governor of the state,he would institutionalize the paŕy caucus comprising the executive,the legislature and the leadership of the party to ensure that the three bodies make input into government programmes and activities.
He stated that the executive and legislature are products of the party and must be ready to be guided by the party otherwise they could derail from what the party promised the electorate, the basis of which the governor and legislators were elected into office.
He said if the executive and legislators are disconnected from the party,the party would fail to deliver on its promise to the electorate and would lose the credibility and goodwill to go back to the same electorate and seek support in future elections.
Professor Akande who is also the Direcor of Centre for Presidential Studies at the Igbinedion University,Okada,Edo State said the successful democracies in the world guide the close relationship between the executive,legislature and party leadership jealously because in the symbiotic relationship of the three lies the future of the party,the government and the politicians.
Professor Akande was accompanied to the parley by a team of supporters including four former Commissioners in the state, seven former local government chairmen, several former aides of Governor Lam Adesina and Governor Abiola Ajimobi and other APC chieftains and activists.
