As the dust settles on the recent Local Government elections in Oyo State, a cloud of disappointment and concern lingers among residents regarding the integrity of the electoral process. Allegations of bias, manipulation, and irregularities have surfaced, casting a shadow over the democratic exercise.

At the forefront of these allegations is the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), accused of failing to uphold its mandate to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections. Reports from various local government areas and wards suggest a systemic failure, with instances of irregularities and lapses in procedure.

Kehinde Ogunniyi, expressed profound disappointment at the conduct of the election, citing glaring discrepancies witnessed firsthand. “It is deeply troubling to witness the extent to which the electoral process has been compromised,” they remarked. “The absence of report or record sheets, coupled with the inexplicable arrival of voting materials, points to a deliberate attempt to undermine the sanctity of the electoral process.

“Central to these concerns is the alleged involvement of Governor Seyi Makinde in shaping the contours of the election to favor his party. Despite his pledge to promote transparency and fairness, Governor Makinde’s purported influence over the electoral machinery has raised questions about the impartiality of the process.”

I can categorically state, with evidence from my local government area and wards, that the election was marred by orchestrated irregularities,” Kehinde Ogunniyi declared. “The absence of accountability and transparency underscores the need for urgent reforms to restore public trust in our electoral system.”

Calls for an independent investigation into the conduct of the election have intensified, with demands for accountability and justice echoing across the state. As citizens await answers, the specter of electoral malpractice threatens to erode confidence in the democratic process.

In the wake of these troubling developments, Kehinde Ogunniyi reiterated their disappointment in Governor Seyi Makinde for his alleged role in subverting the integrity of the election. “Once again, I’m deeply disappointed in Governor Makinde for betraying the trust of the electorate and undermining the principles of democracy,” they lamented.

As Oyo State grapples with the aftermath of the Local Government elections, the path forward remains uncertain. However, one thing is clear: the voices of the people must be heard, and their concerns addressed to safeguard the future of democracy in the state.
