Iresa-Adu area of the Surulere LGA of Oyo State have made announcements to convene a large stakeholders meeting for towns, villages, and territories under the Aresa-Adu of Iresa-Adu lands, which shares political zone with Oriire LGA, where some little students and teachers were recently abdcuted and with one teacher murdered.
Alarm bells have been ring for months in Iresa-Adu, with local and villagers reporting the sighting and settlement of unknown people deep in the suburbs however there have being no centralised coordinated action since Oba Aresa-Adu of Iresa-Adu throne have been vacant for about 8years.
This emergency meeting has become crucial as both the Oriire LGA and Surulere LGA of Oyo State shares boundaries with Kwara State. Bandits have been known to ravage many villages and towns in Kwara State over the past two years, forcing villagers to abandon their homes and livelihoods.
In January 2026, Iresa-Adu, an ancient town with the largest landmass in Surulere LGA of Oyo State, recently appeared in the news where Cattle Rustlers were apprehended in a small village very close to the town’s centre. This operation was carried out successfully by the men of the Nigerian Police Force.
Again, in February 2026 a viral video circulating all over social media, shows unknown armed men intercepted in Iresa-Adu by security operatives. Several ammunitions such as guns, cutlasses, charms, and other dangerous weapons were discovered in their possession. These occurrences raised a lot suspicion from the towns and villages across all five(5) Local Governments of the Ogbomoso zone.
According to the High Chief, Bara of Aresa-Adu of Iresa-Adu, “the general meeting slated for Tuesday, 26th, May 2026, will be a meeting of the entire communities on the territories of Aresa-Adu lands, both young and old, including communities and religious leaders. The meeting is said to be necessary so as to take proactive measures to prevent and dissuade criminal elements from pouring into Aresa-Adu lands”.
When asked, an Iresa community elder, Pa Oladipo said, “We have to find a way to protect ourselves. We live here with our children and family. We source for our daily bread within our communities. The least we can do is to come together and assist the Government on how to properly keep our towns and villages safe from both internal and external incursions”. The elder later confirmed that radio broadcast and other sources of information are being utilised to ensure that as many people as possible are aware and in attendance of this meeting.
