Honorable Olugbemi Adegbuyi, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Oyo State, has narrowly escaped another assassination attempt. Adegbuyi, a former Councillor representing Egbeda Local Government during the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s tenure, recounted the harrowing experience to newsmen.
According to Adegbuyi, unknown gunmen trailed him in a red Hyundai SUV from Ring Road to Aleshinloye area in Ibadan. Upon noticing he was being followed, Adegbuyi swiftly drove towards Iyaganku Police Station, where he parked behind a patrol vehicle, causing the assailants to flee, shouting “a shi maa mue” (meaning “we will still get you”).
This incident marks the second attempt on Adegbuyi’s life, following a previous attack on his residence, which resulted in his son being shot.
Adegbuyi, a vocal advocate for Local Government autonomy and grassroots politics, expressed shock and concern for his safety. He has reported the incident to the police and appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Oyo State Police Commissioner, and well-meaning Nigerians for protection.
“I’m only fighting for the rights of my people and promoting grassroots politics,” Adegbuyi said. “I urge the authorities to ensure my safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
