Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has flagged off the reconstruction of the Akesan Market which was razed by fire in the early month of January.
The market situated at Oyo East Local Government, Oyo town got razed on Sunday, 5th January 2020 at around 5 am in the morning.
The new plan to reconstruct the market has been designed to have 520 Lock-up shops, 168 Open stalls, Administrative block, Warehouses, Cold room storage facility, Clinic, Police Post, Toilets and Potable water supply upon completion.
In addition, the market will have fire pumps and water hoses connected to all the buildings with a dedicated underground fire hydrant tank.
The Governor in his address made it known that the flag off is coming after the fulfillment of his promise by providing widow’s mite as a government to support the people who lost their livelihoods at the market and had to start again.
He noted that the Firetruck at the Akesan Fire Station was also replaced.
The Governor stated further that the contractor, MORTAYUS NIGERIA LIMITED from Oyo town has assured that the construction work will be completed in less than one year for the market to be ready for use. The reconstruction will cost the sum of N781,716,820.15 .
In attendance are; the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III; the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, H.E. Engr. Rauf Olaniyan; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun; Chief of Staff, Chief Bisi Ilaka, and other members of the State Executive Council.
