The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Bimbo Adekanmbi, has seemingly described himself as the “third term” of Governor Seyi Makinde during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday morning.
Adekanmbi made the remark while speaking about his political journey, relationship with the Oyo State Government and his ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
During the interview, Arise TV’s Rufai Oseni told Adekanmbi: “You are going to be Seyi Makinde’s third term because you just drift to where the wind is and it’s not about conviction for you.”
Adekanmbi, who appeared to acknowledge the statement, responded, “Hmm… yes… okay,” while smiling.
The comment has since raised questions about the relationship between the APM candidate and the outgoing governor, particularly ahead of the 2027 election.
Makinde had previously declared that he would not become a political godfather who dictates the affairs of government or interferes in the administration of his successor after leaving office in 2027.
However, Adekanmbi’s response appears to tell a different story, leaving many Oyo residents wondering whether his candidacy represents an independent political project or a continuation of the Makinde administration beyond 2027.
This has also intensified questions about whether Adekanmbi intends to chart his own political course if elected governor or simply serve as an extension of the outgoing administration.
