Chief Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the forthcoming election in Oyo State.
Adegoke, a prominent Ibadan traditional chief, secured victory over other aspirants including Adebisi Ilaka during the party’s primary election.
According to the results announced by the Chairman screening committee, Honourable Rasak Salinsile said Adegoke polled a total of 16,051 votes to defeat Ilaka, who garnered 11,415 votes. Gbemileke Alagbe came third with 241 votes.
Former Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, scored 155 votes, while Niyi Aborisade secured 67 votes in the keenly contested exercise.
The emergence of Adegoke as the ADC flag bearer is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the governorship election in the state.
Speaking after the primary election, Adegoke said he was elated and grateful for the confidence reposed in him by party members.
He urged members of the ADC to mobilise and educate the public ahead of the election.
He promised that his administration would prioritise massive development across the state, particularly in urban renewal, security, healthcare, education and road infrastructure.
“Oyo State will witness massive development. Urban renewal, security, the health sector, education and roads will not be neglected,” he said.
Adegoke also appreciated the national leadership of the party, including former Senate President, David Mark, former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, assuring them that they would not regret supporting his candidacy.
“The leadership of ADC under David Mark, Mr Rauf Aregbesola and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will not regret my candidacy. I must also appreciate our members for giving me their support.
“I promise to proffer solutions to insecurity and other problems facing the state, and I am optimistic that I will emerge governor of Oyo State come 2027,” Adegoke added.
The ADC candidate further pledged to tackle insecurity and other challenges confronting the state, expressing confidence that he would emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
