Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Oyo State until his last day in office, emphasizing leadership’s role in making tough decisions for progress. He made this statement at the unveiling of two books, “Giant Strides” and “Ibadan Hegemony,” and a Yoruba film “Agbeni,” authored by the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, on Thursday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Makinde praised Oba Ajibola’s efforts, saying the works showcase Ibadanland’s culture and history, contributing to knowledge that benefits future generations. Drawing parallels with Obafemi Awolowo’s challenges with free education in 1954, Makinde urged citizens to support transformative projects like the Circular Road, despite controversies.
“The people of Oyo State deserve progress, and I’ll work for them till my last moment,” Makinde said, encouraging others with stories to tell to document them for posterity. He launched the books and film with a N10 million contribution, calling for public support.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, lauded Oba Ajibola’s courage and tenacity, while the author expressed his aim to educate society and preserve Ibadan’s heritage. The event drew dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State Assembly and former Minister Onikepo Akande.
The governor’s remarks underscore his focus on development and cultural preservation in Oyo State.
