A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, has congratulated Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan on his conferment with the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree by the institution. The recognition was awarded during the university’s 2025 convocation ceremonies.
Professor Olayinka described the honour as well deserved, noting that Dr. Adeduntan earned his first degree, the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, from the university several decades ago.
He recalled the strong support the alumnus extended to the institution during his own tenure as Vice-Chancellor from 2015 to 2020, particularly in building strategic partnerships between the University of Ibadan and First Bank of Nigeria.
According to him, Dr. Adeduntan played a central role in the development of annual career fairs and training programmes for final-year students. He added that these efforts strengthened the university’s focus on innovation and external collaboration, a development that contributed to the decision to create the office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships.
Professor Olayinka further disclosed that Dr. Adeduntan had been recommended for the honorary degree as far back as 2020 by the Joint Council and Senate Committee on the Award of Honorary Degrees. Although the approval was delayed at the time, he said the decision was properly documented and has now been fulfilled under the current leadership of the university.
He expressed satisfaction that the award has been conferred under the administration of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, and the Pro-Chancellor, Chief Adebisi Akande. He noted that while Dr. Adeduntan has received several honours both locally and internationally, the one from his alma mater carries particular significance.
Professor Olayinka commended the former bank chief for his continued support of the university and wished him success in his future endeavours.
