The University of Ibadan on Monday conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree on a notable alumnus, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan. The award was presented during the university’s 77th Foundation ceremony day in Ibadan.
Dr. Adeduntan graduated from the institution in 1992 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. The university said the honorary award recognises his contributions to the banking, finance and commerce sectors. He was previously named a Most Distinguished Alumnus of the university in 2020.
The ceremony highlighted his service as the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, where customer accounts increased from about ten million to more than forty million during his nine-year tenure.
In a message shared shortly after the ceremony, he described the recognition as deeply meaningful. He said the university shaped both his professional path and his personal development, and he viewed the honour as one shared with the wider UI community.
The former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria Limited completed a nine-year tenure marked by strong expansion in customer accounts, which rose from about ten million to more than forty million under his leadership.
Since leaving office in April 2024, Dr. Adeduntan has continued his public and private engagements. In March 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan, by the Oyo State Governor.
