The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode Adebowale, has announced that 448 out of 5,900 graduating students of the 2024/2025 academic session earned First Class honours across various disciplines.
Adebowale made the disclosure on Tuesday during the first day of the university’s convocation ceremony for graduates from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Public Health, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences, held at the university’s main campus in Ibadan.
Congratulating the graduands, the VC described their achievement as a testament to discipline, hard work, and perseverance, adding that UI had equipped them to tackle global challenges with competence, character, and creativity.
“The University of Ibadan has trained you to seize future opportunities with confidence and integrity,” Adebowale said, reaffirming the institution’s status as Nigeria’s premier university and one of Africa’s most prestigious academic centres.
He also highlighted the continued impact of UI’s Postgraduate College, the largest in Africa in producing high-level manpower for national and global development. Adebowale further noted that the new Faculty of Computing had positioned the university at the forefront of digital innovation and research.
While acknowledging Nigeria’s economic and infrastructural difficulties, the VC praised the resilience of the nation’s scholars and students, adding that the spirit of innovation continues to drive UI’s progress and sustain its leadership in higher education.
He cited recent international achievements by UI staff and students in research, fellowships, and competitions as proof of the university’s commitment to excellence and relevance in today’s knowledge-driven world.
