The remains of the former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, have finally arrived Ibadan, the state capital.
Following the official announcement of the death of the late Ajimobi on Thursday, six days after an investigative reporter, Fisayo Soyombo, had pronounced him to have passed on, there seem to be controversies over where his final resting place would be.
Ajimobi’s media aide, Bolaji Tunji, had announced that the remains of his late boss might be interred at his Central Mosque in Oke Ado.
As the Muslim community argued that the best place is the cemetery, the wife was said to have preferred the Agodi house, while the family wanted his remains buried within his Oke-Ado Mosque premises.
However, his former special adviser on community relations, Alhaji Murziq Siyanbade, in a statement on Saturday morning, said the remains of the former governor would not be buried at his Mosque again as he would now be interred at one of his houses in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan.
The government has however denied insinuation that it denied them approval to bury him at his Oluyole residence.
According to Siyanbade who is also the Secretary of Muslim Community of Oyo State, MUSCOY, “prayers would only be offered by a few invited clerics and close family members in the Mosque.
“We are very mindful of all the protocols and the limitations on social gathering, which we will never run foul of.
“The information that came out was only meant not to keep us all in the dark.”
MUSCOY chairman, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, who corroborated Siyanbade around 10:30 pm wrote: “Alhamdulilah, the rigmarole surrounding where Alhaj Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi would be buried has been resolved. Prayer on his remains would be at Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Mosque at 11am. He would not be buried in the mosque.
“Internment would be in one of his houses which I don’t have the authority to mention. If there is need for that, the family would do so. Only few people would be admitted in the Mosque because of the Corona virus protocol. Let brothers and sisters who have no invitation stay at home and pray for the repose of the soul of this benefactor of the Muslim Ummah.”
