The All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has disclosed that the August 16, 2025 bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency would be an opportunity for the people of the state to pass a new verdict of rejection on Governor Seyi Makinde over his numerous sins against the masses.
Gov. Makinde has been in the forefront of campaigns for his anointed candidate under the platform of the PDP as media reports indicated that the governor had allocated enormous financial resources to his trusted aides and political allies for the purpose of securing victory for his former Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, who he had singlehandedly picked and handed the PDP ticket even before the date of the party primary.
Oyo APC, in a statement issued on Thursday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said that “voters in Ibadan North have proved to be a unique population of sophisticated, informed and discerning citizens who would never fall for the antics of the reactionary forces in choosing the right person to represent them in the House of Representatives, Abuja.
“As August 16 approaches, the palpable tension and apprehension in the camp of Gov. Makinde and the PDP in the state needs to be dissected for voters in Ibadan North to understand. It is an open secret that the governor is the sponsor of the PDP candidate in this bye-election. Here is a governor who takes the people of the state for a ride on account of their tolerance, patience and respect for the constituted authority. But what they have got in return is profligacy and executive rascality since 2019.
“Ibadan North is the nucleus of Oyo as the seat of power and a home to the largest population of intellectual, informed and discerning minds even as it is one of the most hit by the land grabbing spree and high-handedness being perpetrated by the Makinde administration. Thousands of residents who plied their trade in Agbowo Shopping Complex have been crippled economically while their counterparts in Trans Amusement Park have also been dislodged to pave the way for the sale of the entire facility to total strangers.
“The Green Zone Reserves which harbors Agodi Gardens has been destroyed and converted to land being put up for sale while government land resources in Agodi, Sabo, Samonda and other places within Ibadan North have not been spared. Also, Gov. Makinde turned a blind eye to the University College Hospital, Ibadan recently when the hospital community faced energy crisis for about 100 days because it was owned by the federal government but he can hijack allocations to the Ibadan North local government since May 2019. Indeed, it is payback time for him.” Sadare concluded.
