Faculty of Education UI Gets New Building To Cushion Office Space, Lecture Theatre Challenges

A multi-million naira office complex built under the 2009 TETFund Special Intervention has been opened for the use of the Faculty of Education by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS.

Known as the Faculty of Education Extension, the building was designed to address the challenges of office space and inadequate lecture halls experienced by some departments in the Faculty.

Prof. Adebowale appreciated the significant roles played by former deans and the incumbent dean and other members of the Faculty.

He especially appreciated retired former TETFund Desk Officer, Mr. C.T.A. Semowo, for maintaining a good link between the University and TETFund, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. E.O. Ayoola, for ensuring the successful completion of the building.

The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the Directorates of Works & Maintenance; Physical Planning & Projects Management; and Procurement.

In his welcome address, the Dean of Education, Professor O. A. Fakolade thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his team for providing infrastructure to create conducive environments and unparalleled resources for teaching, research, and learning.

He promised that the newly built Faculty Extension would be put to good use, adding that the problem of office accommodation and inadequate classrooms in Africa’s First and Best Faculty of Education has now been resolved.

The project has the following facilities:
• Ground floor with eleven offices and three halls;
• First floor with 16 offices and three halls;
• Second floor with 21 offices and three halls;
• Third floor with twenty-three offices and two halls
• an elevator, a transformer, conveniences, and a borehole. The building has an underground cable system.
