The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, has again restated his commitment to improving the teaching and learning environment in the University to sustain the current impressive ranking the institution enjoys in the comity of prestigious universities in the world.
The VC disclosed this at the premises of the Distance Learning Centre to commission the Centre’s new Administrative Building as well as the turning of the sod of the Centre’s multiple lecture theatres on Thursday, 12 November, 2020.
Prof. Olayinka in his address at the event emphasised the commitment of the University to infrastructural development not only in DLC but all over the University campus as seen in the past couple of years.
The VC drew the attention of his audience of the effort made by previous administration of the Centre to get to the present state of development.
He acknowledged the efforts of the former Director, especially the immediate past Director, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu in whose tenure the building started with the turning of the sod done on Thursday, 19 September, 2019 and encouraged the management of the Centre to speed up the occupation of the building.
The VC, then, proceeded to commission the building followed by a guided tour of the facility.
Prof. Olayinka, thereafter, proceeded to perform the turning of the sod of the Centre’s Multiple Lecture Theatres within the same premises.
Earlier in his address the Director, Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Emmanuel Omobowale expressed his appreciation for the unflinching support of the University management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka and the confidence reposed in members of UI DLC core management to be at the forefront of policy making for the growth, development and advancement of the Centre and acknowledged the doggedness of the immediate past Director, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu in whose tenure the building project was birthed.
He extended his acknowledgement to Prof. Bayo Okunade for his efforts and courageous move to build the 1500 CBT Centre which has opened up “the expanse of land for the further development witnessed by all today.”
According to the Director, the idea of situating the Administrative Building was conceived in order to centralize the administrative processes and activities of the Centre to minimize the overhead cost of maintaining two office complexes in Ibadan.
The Director, in his closing remarks sought the confirmed goodwill and support of the stakeholders as they continue in their strive to take the country to greater heights.
