UI Hosts World Bank’s Country Director, Shunham

The Country Director of the World Bank, Dr. Shubham Chaudhuri was today received at the University of Ibadan by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, during a courtesy visit.

Dr. Shubham Chaudhuri was in UI to deliver the lead paper at a symposium organised jointly by the Department of Agricultural Economics, the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, and the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER).

The symposium was entitled “Economic Opportunity Pathways to Navigating Post-Reform Challenges in Nigeria”

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebowale, noted that the symposium was most timely now that Nigeria is going through a lot of challenges.

He said he was confident that the communique from the symposium would contain salient points that would positively impact economic policies.

Professor Adebowale said the symposium would provide an avenue for discussants and the public to interrogate and agree on the priority areas for redirecting the Nigerian economy under the new dispensation.

The symposium, according to the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Professor T. T. Awoyemi was facilitated by Professor F. Y. Okunmadewa, formerly of the Department of Agricultural Economics and now a top official of the World Bank.
