Malik Aderogba, an aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for Saki West State Constituency Seat at the Oyo State House of Assembly has stepped down and declared support for the consensus candidate, Honorable Femi Julius.

Aderogba made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Saki.

Aderogba, a business man said his decision was because of the passionate appeal by Governor Seyi Makinde and leaders of the party saying his time too shall come.

He appreciated his supporters, well-wishers and others for standing with him through out the period.

The statement read in full: “My dear compatriots, I greet you in the name of the Almighty God. I thank you most sincerely for believing in us and embarking on this journey together with us.

“We embarked on this political journey to represent Saki West State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly because of our desire to give our people quality representation at the State House of Assembly with a view to ensuring that our people and our community get their due share of the dividends of Democratic Governance. We believe that Law making is a veritable instrument of development and social change.

“However, Life is a battle! You win some, you lose some.

“At the outset of the journey towards 2023, our leader, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde FNSE had expressed a desire for a rancour-free process of picking candidates for elective offices with a bid to avoiding division within the party. His Excellency therefore advocated for the consensus mode of picking candidates.

“The leaders of our dear party in Saki West Local Government thereafter resolved to allow the incumbent lawmaker, Honourable Femi Julius Okedoyin to fly the flag of our party for a second term in office. We initially and vehemently kicked against the method adopted by our leaders in choosing Honourable Femi Julius Okedoyin because we consider the method adopted in choosing him as undemocratic and unjust, most especially because I and other aspirants were not consulted or carried along in the process as required in a truly ‘consensus’ arrangement.

“However, in a bid to resolve the impasse and avoid a crack in the party, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde invited all aspirants to a meeting at the Government House, Ibadan on Monday 25th of April, 2022 where the Governor and other party leaders and stakeholders including our amiable Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola pleaded with us to accept the decision of the elders in order to make the party remain formidable for the 2023 elections.

“Based on the passionate plea from the Governor and other leaders, I hereby announce my withdrawal from the race for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat for Saki West State Constituency in 2023 and I also announce my resolve to support my brother, Honourable Femi Julius Okedoyin for re-election into the State House of Assembly in 2023 and I urge all my supporters to do the same. Our time too shall come.

“Once again, I appreciate your support and sacrifice for this project thus far and I do not take your support for granted. May God bless you all.

We will keep you all informed of further developments!Thank you once again. Long Live Saki City. Long Live Oyo State. Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
