In preparation for this year Christmas and New Year seasons, the former Member, House of Represetive who represented Ibadan North East/South East at the 8th Assembly, Hon Dapo Lam Adesina has again come to make his people happy.

Hon Dapo Lam on Monday distributed food items (over 50bags of rice) and money to numerous people of his constituency in order for them to have a scincillating moment during the festive period.

This is a surprising moment for the constituents who never thought that something of this kind would come their way at the moment, having known that he is no more in office.

The constituents who gathered in their numbers at the Felele residence of the Late Lam Adesina were seen singing the song of praise to appreciate the gesture of Hon Dapo Lam who did not neglect his them but rather come out to make show that he is always with them.

The much awaited examination screening exercise for Bimbo Adekanmbi 2020 free JAMB forms and University scholarship for students across eleven local government areas of Oyo state held on Saturday with over 1500 candidates participated in the screening.

OYOMIND.COM.NG recalled that the distribution of forms for this screening held between 5th and 30th of November.

Mr. Adekanmbi, ex commissioner for finance and Budget in Oyo state as he promised, on Saturday staged his screening examination in three centres across the 11 local government areas of Oyo Central of Oyo state in a conducive and serene environment.

Addressing the candidates, Adekanmbi implored all to put in best in order to score higher grade, not only to got a free JAMB form and free enrolment for tutorial class in preparation for 2020 JAMB examination but also to be one of the beneficiaries of the scholarship into any federal university of choice.

”We are doing this to prepare you ahead of your forthcoming JAMB exam and share from your parents and guardians education financial responsibility”.

”This is not for political gain, not to waste your time, when I said am giving out free JAMB forms for indigent students and scholarship to candidates with higher scores in each local government, I really mean it, you just try me with your best and I will surprise you” Adekanmbi Added.

Speaking further, Adekanmbi gave his assurance that all candidates that scored pass mark and above in the screening examination will surely got the free JAMB form and tutorial enrollment irrespective of numbers as promised, afterwards a candidate with highest qualified score in 2020 JAMB examination from each of local government areas will have access to full scholarship in university of choice.

Adekanmbi 2020 free JAMB examination screening was held in three centres on Saturday, centres includes : Elekuro High School, Olorunsogo, Akaran, Ona Ara Local Government, Federal School of Statistics, Sasa, Ibadan, Akinyele Local Government and Educare Comprehensive College Oke- Ibadan, Ibadan.

Over 1500 was recorded to have sat for the examination screening out of 1680 that registered.

The University of Ibadan has just released the list of newly promoted lecturers in the institution.

This was made available at the meeting held on Friday, 20th December 2019, where the Appointments and Promotions Committee for Academic Staff at the University of Ibadan announced the promotion of 19 of its academic staff to the professorial cadre.

The Wife of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Amudalat B. OLANIYAN of the Department of Agronomy also made the list.

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde through the State Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, Professor Raphael Afonja has called for the submission of list of roads in rural communities that needed urgent attention, in the areas of repair or reconstruction.

Professor Afonja made this known at a meeting with Directors of Works of the thirty-three Local Government areas in the State on Wednesday where he reinstated the administration’s poise to make quality road construction a culture in the State for sustainability.

“The government has called for the submission of list of roads that need urgent repair or reconstruction in each local government, so as to make lives of the people at the rural communities meaningful and reduce urban drift as good road network in each community will aid commerce and empower the populace.

“The meeting also dwelt on the need to make quality road construction a culture in the State, it is foolhardy for any government to appropriate money for roads that are shoddily done as the same road will need attention very early, so it is better we build roads that will stand the test of time,” Afonja hinted.

Professor Afonja added that the present administration has a twenty years plan for roads in the State, and thereby urged the Directors of Works at the local government areas to key into the program by ensuring the standardization of road projects at the grass-root level.

The Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State Chapter, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, on Wednesday resume to his office at Oluyole Local Government.

The State Chapter of ALGON has directed that all her members should go back to their various Local Government to assume work with immediate effect. This is coming after the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has submitted the list of New Caretaker Chairmen to the assembly.

Prince Aleshinloye while addressing the people and security personnel St the local government appealed for calm and understanding from the people of the local government over the on-going face off between the association and the governor.

He commended the security opertaives on ground for maintaining peace in the council areas and said the association will continue to stand by the rule of law.

Any unbiased partaker in Oyo State politics will tell you Governor Seyi Makinde won the last gubernatorial election in Oyo State by popular vote. The margin of the victory is a testament of the support he enjoyed across the state. With 27 out of 32 seats in the Oyo State House of Assembly, PDP certainly bossed that election.

To say PDP rigged itself to victory is absolute nonsense. At both the federal and state levels at the time of the election, APC was the ruling party. They had party members in all important positions up to the grassroots. In terms of logistics, no party held a candle to them. They had all security forces on their side and INEC dared not collude with the opposition in the circumstances. While INEC may be hamstrung to help the ruling party, they certainly can’t aid and abet an opposition party. So, PDP won fair and square.

The governorship election result has gone under the scrutiny of the Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. Both affirmed Seyi Makinde’s victory but a foray into evidence evaluation leaves question marks on the fairness of the judgment of the election tribunal. This has given APC supporters a shot in the arm. They believe that aspect of the judgement of the Court of Appeal leaves a window of opportunity for the APC to have another bite at the cherry through the medium of a re-run.

To say it’s a hopeless case will be to underestimate the Nigerian factor in the dispensation of justice. Apparently there’s no basis for any re-run but in Nigeria, YOU NEVER KNOW.

In all honesty, on performance basis, I think Seyi Makinde has injected a breath of fresh air to the polity. His modesty and equanimity are endearing. He is paying workers’ salaries in manners appealing to the working population in the state. He seems to be getting it right. For an officious bystander like me, it will be cruel to upset the applecart.

To say I’m a neutral will be a voyage into dishonesty. My party, ADC, joined others to lend support to Seyi Makinde. Without the obvious favourable legal angle, I would still have rooted for him to win at the Supreme Court.

In the unlikely event that a re-run is ordered however, Governor Seyi Makinde will find it extremely difficult to win again at the polls. The APC will throw in everything including the kitchen sink into the contest. I foresee all APC governors in Nigeria camping in Oyo State for the election. Soldiers will be here to intimidate people like they did in the re-run in Osun. The APC will win the vote buying contest hands down like they did in Ekiti and Kogi.

What should count for Governor Seyi Makinde is the same kind of popular support he got in March. He will still count on the coalition that gave him the edge in the last election. The question is: will they still be there for him?

In International law, there’s a phrase “pacta sunt savanda” (Agreement must be kept). It’s apparent that the agreement Gov Makinde struck with coalition partners has broken down irretrievably. It appears, for instance, that the governorship candidate of my own party, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, has been shabbily treated and has moved on. There are disgruntlements even in the ranks of the core PDP that may make the road to a successful re-run difficult.

This takes me to the need to call on Governor Makinde to see a big test ahead, regardless of the outcome of the Supreme Court verdict. If he wins, he would still need people who have been let down for the next election. There won’t be any coalition when the earlier one was treated with breaches. If he lost (God forbid it please), how on earth can he have the courage to approach the same people for help?

Head or tail, Governor Seyi Makinde should work harder on building a political base with people who gave everything to make his being governor possible. People who are not politicians will hold the view that the coalition just wanted to share positions and derail the governor’s good start. In the grand scheme of things, all around the world, that is simply how politics and governance merge into each other.

On a personal level, I just want the governor to succeed. I won’t take any form of appointment from his administration if offered one. I’m committing myself to further personal developments. The point is just that he has a long road to travel in order to win back the backing of the very same people who propelled him to victory whether sooner (a re-run) or later (2023).

Once again, God, please forbid a re-run in Oyo State.

Oyo State government has trained 1200 stakeholders from local communities on how to monitor and maintain projects undertaken by the State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) for sustainability of such projects.

The stakeholders were charged to intensify more efforts towards maintaining functionality and sustainability of micro project in their communities.

Speaking at a day refresher training organized by CSDA for Community project management committee (CPMC) members, the General Manager, Oyo State CSDA Mr Babatunde Christopher hinted that the grass-root development anchored on projects that touch the core needs of the people was the major area of interest of the present administration as promises were made to provide good governances to the people.

Mr Babatunde explained during the training for Ibadan/Ibarapa, Oyo/Ogbomosho and Oke-Ogun zones that a number of 691 projects have been completed in 146 intervention communities in the areas of health, water provision, education, rural electrification, construction of bridges, socio economic empowerment while 35 ongoing projects would be concluded before the year 2020.

He stated that as the community and social development project was preparing to round up by the year 2020, the success of the micro project implementation in the communities depended largely on the CPMC, as they must acquire effective supervision and sustainability of projects.

“It is pertinent that the people directly affected by these projects are made to monitor and maintain them, this is the only way to keep the projects alive for the benefit of the rural dwellers.

“The funding expended on these projects were sought from the World Bank and not a grant, this means it has to be paid back, therefore, the projects must be maintained that they do not get spoilt or neglected due to poor use.

“The trainees were selected from all the benefitting communities across the State and the training covers the areas of financing regulation, participatory monitoring and evaluation for sustainability of these projects as I have said earlier.”

One of the trainees, Mr Folorunso Olagoke of Sooto community at Egbeda local government in Ibadan, appreciated the present administration on its efforts towards making life meaningful to all rural dwellers and the people of the State.

“The programme has done a lot to improve the standard of living of the people in the communities concerned, among which is my own community, we have boreholes and connection to the national grid through which we now enjoy electricity, we are grateful.”

The ongoing CSDA projects covered years 2009 to 2020 and projects that have impacted on community health, rural electrification, accessible water and others have been executed.

Oyo State Chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has directed all its members to resume to their respective councils tomorrow.

In a statement released by the State Executives, all the democratically elected Executive Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Councillors and the political appointees are hereby directed to resume back to their respective Councils tomorrow, the 18th Dec, 2019.

OYOMIND.COM.NG recalled that the State Governor recently sent the list of new Chairmen for 33 Local Governments and 35 LCDAs to the House of Assembly.

This directive by ALGON is in compliance with the Judgement of Oyo State High Court dated the 6th May, 2018 and the subsisting Judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which guaranteed the tenure of office of democratically elected local government councils.
