The Special Assistant to Oyo State Governor on Students Matters, Mr. Olojede Victor has intervened and settled the rift between the students of the Oke-Ogun Polytechnic on their last Students Union Government election.

Victor made this effort during his visitation to the institution as one of the familiarization tours to get acquainted with the management and students of tertiary institutions owned by the state government.

The Oke Ogun Polytechnic had it’s Students Union election which was marred with irregularities and led to violence. The management of the institution having heard this declared the election inconclusive. Three months after, the management of the school after adequate investigation officially announced a certain candidate ad the Students Union President.

The other presidential candidate, on the other hand, did not take this resolution in good faith, this has been affecting the activities of the union and make it impossible for the executives to rightfully perform their duties as the student union building was confined.

After the meeting with the school management and students involved, Mr. Victor was able to harness the reason for peace to reign on campus for the benefit of all which led to the issue being resolved amicably.

“I have come as the representative of the state government to resolve the ongoing crisis between the student’s comrades in struggle. Herewith I am students leaders across the state and beyond who have experience in settling students related crisis.

” Having met with the management and the students involved, we have been able to resolve everything. The presidential candidate declared by the School, Comrade Hussein Hakeem Adewale and his team will go on with union activities while the other party, Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim Adedare has been given the opportunity to pick up the speakership position.

More so, the case of a former Union President of the institution, Comrade Mathew Abiodun Richard, who has a disciplinary case that led to the delay of his NYSC was tabled before the management and I am happy to tell you that the management has yielded to our plea and agreed to review his case and allow him to go for service. He said.

Present at the meeting is the Rector of Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Esv. K.O Ogunmola, Registrar, R.F.A Adeniji and Dean Student Affairs, Mr. M.O Adeoti.

Oyo State has recorded Four new cases of covid-19 as the virus keeps increasing on a daily basis.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) makes this announcement through its twitter handle at about 10:40pm on Saturday night.

Oyomind.com.ng recalled that until the announcement of new cases, Oyo state already had three cases which makes it seven (7) altogether.

As it stands now, the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria has reached 97, three have been discharged while one death was recorded.

As part of the continued support to provide relief to the populace of Oyo State from the restrictions imposed by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi distributed over 200 bags of rice to the whole of the 33 local governments in the state.

Oyo State government in her bid to prevent the spread of the virus has imposed a curfew from 7 pm to 6 am daily and closure of some market.

Adekanmbi while speaking with the press expressed his concern over the survival of the people in such a trying time like this.

“This is the moment when our people needed us most and we can’t afford to fail them because they deserve the best.

“I have seen a lot of people call out politicians, business moguls, and philanthropists to support this cause. They are right because irrespective of who we are, giving back to the society is best of humanism.

“This is our own little way to ensure that our people get relieved during the stay home period and I pray that Oyo State, Nigeria, and the world come out of this pandemic stronger.

There are two revealing outcomes of this coronavirus outbreak. First is the reminder about the equality of humanity. This virus has just reminded us of the words of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the USA.

He said: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are right to life, right to liberty, and the right to the pursuit of happiness.”

Irrespective of race, sex, religion, creed and social status, this outbreak has temporarily switched off these rights and we can see how united in desperation all humans are in the quest to regain these rights.

Today, it’s proven that Humanity is one and equal before the Creator! The second outcome is the deglobalization of our shared realities. With this coronavirus outbreak, it’s obvious that there is nothing GLOBAL in the real sense of it; when the chips are down, everything turns out LOCAL.

This should send a serious message to the African leader who relies on globalization to access overseas health and education services for his family wards, leaving the governed to die away at those mortuaries we call hospitals. The virus must have taught the African leader that, without any notice, he can be shut out of that privileged access to those overseas services that were put in place by his foreign colleagues for their citizens, but to which globalization allowed him unmerited access.

The African leader has seen that some invisible, tiny organism can obscure his capacity to visit, sight and enjoy those good things of life which GLOBALIZATION has allowed him, but which his leadership-induced poverty has disallowed his citizens.

The outbreak has now forced every leader to answer his country’s name, and has impress it on them to embrace those obsolete medical facilities they so much love to ignore and left unattended to.

When I saw Atiku’s son and Abba Kyari taken to an obsolete hospital in Gwagwalada, I shook my head and pondered over the irony of the powerlessness of power and the meaninglessness of money. If not for this virus, perhaps, they would have been flown to those cosy, well-equipped hospitals in Italy and Germany. But this is no longer possible as each nation has to carry her corona cross.

But I know that this too shall pass away and it is expected that our leaders must have learnt their lessons. After this harrowing experience, though the world shall continue to go GLOBAL, but essential services, especially those of health and education, must now come LOCAL.

It should signal an era of localizing global services. It is called GLOCALIZATION. Unfortunately, in Oyo state, Gov. Seyi Makinde is already doing nothing in that way, because of Politics, he has failed to put into use the center created by Senator Abiola Ajimobi when he was the governor of the state, simply bcs the center is named after Senator Abiola Ajimobi. Ex Oyo commissioner for Finance and Budget, Bimbo Adekanmbi through his Bimbo Adekanmbi initiative commenced the distribution of thousands of sanitizers and engaging people on safety tips to ward off Coronavirus within Ibadan since Sunday 23rd of March which later moved to Oyo town to continue educating people on the causes, effect, and prevention of the virus.

Adekanmbi’s campaign team against the spread of Coronavirus toured Oyo town to sensitize and distribute hand sanitizers to prevent the spread of coronavirus, visited Akesan, Owode markets and some communities in Oyo.

The sensitization and hand sanitizer distributions which were held at Akesan and Owode market focused principally on key messages on coronavirus; like prevention, symptoms and negative effect of raising fake news for public consumption

In a statement by Bimbo Adekanmbi, he admonished the market men and women to be cautious and apply necessary preventive measures including regular washing of hands with soap and water or use of alcohol-containing sanitizers.

He added other measures as avoiding touching the eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands; covering the nose and mouth with a napkin, handkerchief or nose mask while coughing or sneezing and; keeping at least 5 feet distance from anyone.

 Mr. Adekanmbi also advised anyone with symptoms of continuous coughing and sneezing to report to the nearest health facility for medical attention, especially if such is accompanied by mild fever.

The management of the University of Ibadan has debunked the news circulating around that a student of the institution has contracted coronavirus.

At the early hours of Monday, 23rd March 2020, a 100 level student, Nejo Henry Ogooluwa raised an alarm over his health condition which has symptoms of covid-19.

Henry, who lives at Morogbo, Lagos State left the University Community on Friday when he started noticing different changes in his body. He noticed symptoms like fever, difficult breathing, dry cough, and chest pain and reached out to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) who told him they are only interested in those he had travel history with which he cannot say.

This abandonment and his inability to withstand the pain made him raise alarm for help which went viral on social media.

The Dean of Students, University of Ibadan, Prof. Adekeye Abiona who spoke with oyomind.com.ng correspondent said the suspected case of coronavirus in the university is nothing but a false alarm.

Professor Abiona said “I wish to inform University of Ibadan students and the public at large that the news circulating on Social Media about a 100 level student, Nejo Henry Ogooluwa, claiming to have contracted Coronavirus on the campus is a false alarm.

“I have just had a discussion with his mother who stated that doctors confirmed that he has an ulcer, which resulted in heartburns.

“By the foregoing, no student has contracted the Coronavirus on the University campus.”

As part of ongoing efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus, ex-Oyo commissioner for finance and budget, Bimbo Adekanmbi, through his foundation, on Monday stormed Ibadan major markets to sensitize and distribute sanitizers to market men and women in the state capital.

The initiative is one of the ways adopted by the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, trained accountant to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state. The distribution of sanitizers was done in order to prevent many lives from the deadly virus.

Mr. Adekanmbi while speaking with press said the sensitization and distribution of the materials is a genuine concern for the health and total well being of the people.

“I will not relent in my effort to build a strong perspective on strengthening preventive measures and enhancing community and market surveillance against all epidemic-prone diseases in the state”.

“There is no better time to conduct market sensitization with surveillance than a time like this, our people need education and prevention against spread of corona virus”.

“We should start practicing alternative ways of greeting each other that do not involve handshakes and reduce unnecessary social and family gatherings. We should also be careful about the information we spread especially on social media since unverified information can lead to panic which might cause unwarranted stigmatization against health workers, people of a certain ethnicity or patients,” he added.

The sensitization and distribution held at Bus Stop Gate, Oje, Ojagbo, Orita Aperin, Amuloko, Bere, Agbeni, Ogunpa, Dugbe, Gbagi and Ojoo.

Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital has recorded the first positive case of Covid-19 popularly called coronavirus.

This is contained in a twit by Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde at the early hours of Sunday Morning.

Oyomind.com.ng recalled that a suspected returnee was placed under isolation for days while the government waited for the laboratory result.

According to the governor, the result was released at 17:35pm of March 21, 2020.

He said “The Covid-19 confirmation test for the suspected case at Bodija has come back POSITIVE. The rest was released at 17:35PM of March 21, 2020.

“Oyo State Public Officials are collaborating with the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan’s team on the case.”
