The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is bracing for uncertainty as Governor Seyi Makinde explores a possible defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
This is as a result of Makinde’s growing dissatisfaction with the deepening crisis in the PDP which has pushed him to consider alternative political platforms.
According OYOINSIGHT.COM, Governor already has “one leg” in the ADC.
“He’s already one leg in the ADC and when PDP eventually collapses, he will decamp. It’s just a matter of time’.
When asked if Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, might follow suit, the source explained that while Adeleke is tempted to leave the PDP, he is being persuaded to stay by a former governor and senator close to the Adeleke family, OYOINSIGHT.COM reported.
The source also revealed that there are already soft alignments between Adeleke and key figures in the Osun ADC, noting his cordial relationship with former governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Political observers say Makinde’s recent moves are influenced by his strained relationship with his former G-5 ally and current FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.
However, some prominent ADC members in Oyo State denied knowledge of any formal negotiation, insisting that their party would resist any attempt by outsiders to destabilize it.
“If Makinde is planning to come, he won’t be allowed to destroy ADC the way he and Wike have wrecked the PDP” one ADC promoted said.
The looming crisis in the PDP has been compounded by conflicting court rulings over the party’s forthcoming national convention.
While Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, restrained the PDP from holding its convention until it complies with its constitution and the Electoral Act, a contrary ruling by Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court on Monday granted an ex parte order allowing the exercise to proceed, pending hearing on November 10, 2025.
The contradictory judgments have further thrown the PDP into confusion, deepening fears within the Oyo chapter as Governor Makinde’s next political move remains uncertain.
