The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, is currently running on just five hours of electricity each day, OyoMindNews has exclusively gathered.
According to internal sources, the hospital receives power supply only between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and again from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. This development has left Intensive Care Unit, and Theater departments relying solely on generators to function, while non-essential services are being disrupted.
The situation has been ongoing for several weeks, with no clear resolution in sight. It has raised concerns about the ability of the hospital to maintain its daily operations.
It will be recalled that the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, visited the hospital earlier this year over a similar power outage issue. During that visit, he met with the hospital management and assured them of federal intervention.
Months after the minister’s visit, UCH is still facing severe electricity challenges.
UCH, established in 1957, remains one of Nigeria’s foremost teaching hospitals and serves as a major referral center for patients across the South West and beyond.
