The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Afeez Owoade, is set to install former First Bank of Nigeria Managing Director, Adesola Adeduntan, as the new Balogun of Oyo land.
With this development, Adeduntan will assume a revered title previously held by the late Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a distinguished mathematician and former Governor of Oyo State.
Following his exit from First Bank, Adeduntan had maintained a relatively low public profile, focusing on private business interests away from the spotlight that characterized much of his corporate career. However, by July, 2026, he is poised to re-emerge on a different stage, not within the corporate corridors of Lagos, but in the historic and culturally significant setting of Oyo.
There, he will be formally installed as the Balogun of Oyo land by the Alaafin, marking a significant personal and cultural milestone.
For Adeduntan, an Ibadan-born technocrat from a respected Yoruba trading lineage, the installation represents more than a conferment of title. It is a symbolic homecoming, a transition from the transient influence of corporate leadership to the enduring legacy and authority embedded within traditional institutions.
