Traditional rulers and community leaders in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State have received Otunba Olusina John Ogunsola, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Oluyole Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Sawmill, New Garage, Ibadan, provided a platform for the federal constituency hopeful to engage traditional institutions, community stakeholders and party faithful on his proposed legislative priorities and development agenda for Oluyole.
The gathering was chaired by Alhaji Kabiru Baale Ayegun Oleyo, with traditional rulers, including Obas and Baales from different communities across the local government, in attendance. The engagement also featured expressions of support for Ogunsola and blessings from the traditional leaders ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle.
Addressing the gathering, Ogunsola outlined a series of proposed initiatives aimed at improving access to essential services, expanding educational opportunities, upgrading infrastructure and strengthening the welfare of recognised traditional rulers across Oluyole Federal Constituency.
On healthcare, the ADC candidate pledged to facilitate access to free basic healthcare services for residents across communities in the constituency, particularly those who face difficulties accessing essential medical care.
In the education sector, he promised to advocate for the establishment of higher educational institutions, including universities and colleges of education, within Oluyole Local Government Area. The proposal, according to the campaign agenda presented at the meeting, is intended to expand educational opportunities and improve access to tertiary education for young people in the area.
Ogunsola also identified road rehabilitation and infrastructure development as key areas of focus, promising to pursue major improvements to rural and urban road networks to enhance transportation, connectivity and economic activities across the constituency.
In a separate pledge directed at the traditional institution, he promised to prioritise the welfare of recognised traditional rulers in Oluyole Federal Constituency, with the stated aim of supporting their community engagements and responsibilities.
The proposed commitments formed part of his broader development agenda presented to the traditional rulers and other stakeholders during the meeting.
In their separate remarks, traditional rulers at the meeting reportedly expressed support for Ogunsola, citing what they described as his longstanding interventions in community development and assistance to residents despite not holding public office.
Among the initiatives referenced were youth empowerment programmes, support for market women, scholarship opportunities for students and financial assistance to widows.
The traditional leaders also cited the provision of buses to facilitate transportation for candidates participating in SUBEB and TESCOM employment examinations and screening exercises.
They further referenced his mobilisation efforts across Oluyole’s 10 wards to encourage residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Other interventions attributed to Ogunsola included the distribution of palliatives to residents when needed, annual sponsorship of NECO, WAEC and JAMB examinations for students, emergency relief assistance and healthcare support for people facing medical difficulties.
According to the accounts presented at the gathering, some beneficiaries of the educational support scheme have subsequently gained admission into higher institutions.
The traditional rulers pointed to these initiatives as part of the reasons for their stated support for his aspiration to represent Oluyole Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
The question of local identity and connection to the constituency also featured in the traditional rulers’ remarks.
They described Ogunsola as a son of the soil and referenced his ancestral connection to the Iba Oluyole lineage, distinguishing his roots in the area from those of individuals they characterised as having no ancestral ties to Oluyole.
Their remarks underscored the importance they attached to community identity, familiarity with local challenges and a candidate’s record of engagement with residents.
The expressions of support and traditional blessings marked a significant part of the stakeholder meeting, which brought together community representatives and political supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
