A member of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Musibau Olayiwola, has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, seeking an interim injunction to stop the party’s scheduled General/National Convention slated for August 12 and 13, 2026, in Bauchi.
Olayiwola, who described himself as the elected Zonal Chairman of the APM South-West Zone, filed the suit against the Allied Peoples Movement, its National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, National Secretary, Oyadeyi Ayodele Adebayo, the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the National Convention, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a Motion Exparte filed pursuant to Order 26 Rules 1–5 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, and the inherent jurisdiction of the court, the applicant is seeking an order granting an interim injunction restraining the defendants/respondents, whether by themselves, their agents, privies, associates or anyone acting through them, from proceeding with the scheduled General/National Convention pending the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice.
The applicant is also seeking an order restraining the fifth defendant, INEC, from attending or monitoring the scheduled convention pending the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice.
In an affidavit of extreme urgency filed in support of the application, Olayiwola stated that he is a bona fide member of the APM and attached his party membership card as an exhibit.
He further stated that he was elected Zonal Chairman of the APM at the party’s congress held in Ibadan, adding that his position gave him knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the matter.
According to the applicant, he was informed on Friday that he could no longer obtain the party’s nomination form, a development he described as a threat to his participation in the forthcoming party convention.
He told the court that unless the application was urgently heard and granted, the convention could proceed without him, thereby excluding him from the process.
Olayiwola urged the court to intervene in the interest of justice, stressing the need for urgent consideration of his application before the scheduled convention.
The suit, filed at the Ibadan Judicial Division of the Federal High Court, places the dispute within the broader internal affairs of the APM as the party prepares for its national convention.
The applicant is seeking judicial protection pending the hearing and determination of the substantive application before the court.
