A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and gubernatorial aspirant, Barr. Akeem Agbaje, has pledged support for the City Boy Movement, a grassroots political initiative aimed at mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the publicity Director of the movement, Gbenga Oyetola, who said the endorsement came during a familiarisation visit by leaders of the movement to Agbaje, where they outlined their structure and objectives across the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Director of the City Boy Movement in Oyo State, Hon. Femi Onireti, said the group has successfully built a political structure spanning from the state to the ward level. He explained that the visit was part of efforts to strengthen alliances within the party and secure broader backing for their activities.
“We are here to introduce this movement to you and seek your support. Our structure is fully established from the state down to the ward level, and we are committed to working for Asiwaju and the APC in Oyo State,” Onireti said.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of the movement, Chief Ahmed Ajibola, noted that the primary objective of the group is to galvanise support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. He emphasised the importance of engaging new voters and young people across the state.
“Our focus is on capturing new voters, especially the youth, and bringing them into the fold to support Asiwaju. The narrative will change this time, and that is why we are intensifying our mobilisation efforts,” Ajibola stated.
In his response, Agbaje commended the delegation for their initiative and described the movement as a strategic step toward strengthening the APC’s grassroots appeal in Oyo State. He expressed confidence in the group’s vision and pledged his full support.
“I thank you for this visit; it is a great honour. I am very passionate about the re-election of Asiwaju. He has been able to stabilise the country, and it is critical that he returns in 2027,” Agbaje said.
He further lauded the youth-driven nature of the movement, describing it as “brilliant” and timely, while assuring the team of his readiness to collaborate toward achieving their shared political goals.
Agbaje added that the vision of President Tinubu is already yielding visible results, expressing optimism about the future of the party and the country under his continued leadership.
The City Boy Movement is one of several emerging political groups within the APC aimed at consolidating grassroots support and expanding the party’s voter base ahead of the next general elections.
