The Seyi Makinde faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a major legal setback as the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified its national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025.
In a split judgment delivered on Thursday, a majority of three out of five justices ruled that the appeal brought by the faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki lacked merit.
Delivering the lead judgment, Stephen Adah held that the appellants acted in violation of a subsisting order of the Federal High Court, which had restrained them from proceeding with the convention.
The apex court consequently invalidated the outcome of the Ibadan gathering, dealing a significant blow to party stakeholders aligned with Seyi Makinde and further deepening the leadership crisis within the PDP ahead of future political contests.
