The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Abiodun Makinde is one of the major Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party in Nigeria Owing to his historic emergence as Governor of Oyo State in 2019.
However, the National Working Committee of the Opposition Party wants him to revive their lost glory in the major Southwest States of the Federation, however, this has been a total disaster with Makinde being at the helms of the States’ Election affairs.
The inability of Governor Makinde to lead the People’s Democratic Party to victory in Kogi, Ondo, and Ekiti where he Chaired the National Campaign Committe is one of the setbacks he has been battling with. Considering the landslide success of the PDP in Edo State which birthed the EdoNobeLagos and their subsequent loss in Kogi State to Governor Yaya Bello of APC which was the first Election Assignment of Makinde turned out to be an abysmal.
His long absence and support for the eventual winner of the Osun Gubernatorial Election, Ademola Adeleke proved that Makinde has been on the fallout with many Cheiftains within the Party. Though he arrived at Ede a night before the Election, but many would consider the fact that, Makinde has yet to deliver any state for PDP during election which he chaired.
In their preparation for the election, PDP appointed Bayelsa’s Governor, Mr. Duoye Diri as the Chairman of the National Campaign Committee of the Osun State Gubernatorial Election which was won by the PDP despite Makinde ruling next to Osun, the experiment of whether Makinde does “Jinx” the election has been brought to open air without excuse and doubt.
Makinde during the Osun gubernatorial primaries was said to have supported Bamidele Adeleke against his brother and now the governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke. This, he was not able to come in reality with that made him distance himself from the state.
With Osun under the radar of the PDP, they could simply coast to the next general election with heads up while putting their failure in Kogi, Ekiti, and Ondo under the radar.
