Ido Progressive Youth IDY had roll out some unbundling bundles of atrocities by the current local government chairman Hon. Sheriff Adeojo who is also contesting in the forthcoming local government election.
In a statement signed by Ido progressive youth stated that the genesis of local government administration in Nigeria can be traced back to the pre-colonial era, where emirates such as Sokoto Borno Caliphates, Ibadan, Egba, Ekiti, and Oyo Empires existed. These empires were governed by Emirs, Obas, and Chiefs, and the smaller districts, villages, and wards under their jurisdiction could be regarded as local government entities.
“In Nigeria, the number of local governments rose from 299 in 1970 to 774 in 1996, following the authority given to the state governments to create local government units, with Ido Local Government established in May 1989 in Oyo State. The local government comprises ten wards and over 612 villages, with Ido town serving as its headquarters. The local government shares its boundaries with Oluyole, Akinyele, Ibadan North, Ibadan North West, Ibadan South West local governments in Oyo State, and Odeda in Ogun State”.
“Despite the rapid development Ido Local Government enjoyed since its inception, the current chairman, Sheriff Adeojo, popularly known as “Sheriff Adeojo,” has failed in his duties and responsibilities, driving development in reverse and allowing Ido’s assets and monuments to rot. The physical state of the council buildings and their surroundings, which are now submerged in thick bush, is a testament to the chairman’s carelessness.
The progressive youth then stated Some of the chairman’s actions and inactions that require the attention of the people of Ido Local Government include the following:
1. Claiming to have built the Operation Burst Office, which was actually constructed in the 1980s when he was a primary school pupil.
2. Spending #30m remittance he received as 1% on Omi-Ido road without the approval of the Finance and General Purpose Committee.
3. Spending another #1.5m from the Ido treasury without the approval of the said Finance and General Purpose Committee.
4. Presenting imperfect and non-functional boreholes to four communities of Elewe (ward 3), Akindele (ward 3), Aba-odo (ward 2), and Gorojo (ward 5) in a treacherous manner.
5. Failing to convene a Finance and General Purpose Committee meeting since March 25, 2023, despite the monthly requirement.
They stated that as the LG elections approach, it is essential to correct the anomaly that has been allowed to fester over the past three years. Ido Local Government needs a candidate with impeccable character and a track record of service to the community. This is an opportunity to remove a tyrant and selfish representative who has used the LG to enrich himself at the expense of the people. Every vote counts, and it is time for Ido to make the right decision this coming Saturday, April 27, 2024.
