In as much as I agree to the course for which the G5 are fighting for, the level of high-handedness that played out at flag off yesterday is a mess and dent on our political system.
I was raised by a forum called Alert All Youth Forum, and as early as 2004 I knew and felt what party supremacy is all about. At a point, the forum that produced the SUG president had him suspended and he began to run up and down because he knew so well that what will come after is impeachment by the council whom are all loyal to the party.
We can not be in desperation to build a sane system, political parties with ideologies, policies and character forming the basis of their respective identities with the present way of doing business as currently being displayed by these Governors.
PDP in the centre is already a shadow of what it used to be and it is sad to see how Governors like Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, Ikpeazu and Ortom who have performed woefully in their respective states and has literally nothing serious to show for their time in Governance come to the our state to campaign for PDP without calling for a vote for the Presidential candidate.
Rumor had it that the Governors were even disappointed with what they met onground but ofcourse that is not the essence of this write up. But it would have made more sense if the state had projects lined up for commissioning ahead of this flag-off. Say like a 3days event and all to convince us against some of the “balabu bulaba” that has since characterized the political landscape of the country in recent months.
As expected, the guber aspirants from other states, the executive Governor of Osun State would have added funfare, glitz and glamour that should possibly shake the major opposition in the state. At least, we are aware AYU can not appear at such event but embarrassingly, some elements were seen shouting and rooting for Atiku despite the Governors’ body language and public display against him.
How comfortable is the state Chairman of the party in this situation, is it a shame that Arapaja who is the Deputy National Chairman is still allowed to continue to act is such capacity ? Oh those are always vulnerable people in the hand of the any sitting Governors regardless of the political parties they all belong to. Such is the power that recognizes the Governor as the leader of the party in the state. There is a need to do party reformation and give powers to the executives of the party to serve as checks and balances to their representatives in office.
Few years ago, I wrote a piece about the APC and how they let go of people like Saraki, Dino Melaye and Sheu Sanni due to anti party activities. I’ll find the link and edit this post soon to accommodate my thoughts.
Imagine having Oshiomole as the party Chairman, and BAT as the candidate of the APC in the coming election. Yes I get their points, but will sitting on the fence solve it ? No. The emergence of either of the two candidate as President in few weeks time will further put a struggling state like ours in opposition to the FG. Peter Obi had rather just take this one out so we know we are not in opposition We’ll make a case for ourselves when such thing happens and when time comes.
Makinde will only account for his own vote, the decision is for the masses. I’ll be responding to few reasonable comments in the comment section.
