Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Ibadan has graduated nothing less than 143 students for the 2018/2019 academic session having completed their Bachelor of Laws Degree programme a few days ago.
In a congratulatory message by the University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Idowu Olayinka on Sunday, it was stated that none of the 143 students finished in either Third Class or Ordinary Pass as 15 finished in the First Class category.
Olayinka said “On account of the (resuscitated) accelerated calendar processed by the Faculty Board of Law and approved by Senate, it has been possible for the 2018/2019 Final Year Students of the highly regarded Faculty of Law at the University of Ibadan to complete their Bachelor of Laws degree programme a few days ago.
“We acknowledge with thanks the efforts of Dean Olatunbosun, and all the other Faculty members, in synergy with the expressed wishes of the majority of the affected students, who have contributed to this feat.
“This now paves the way forui the students in that cohort who have satisfied the examiners to proceed to the Nigerian Law School which opens in the coming days for their professional training which would lead to their enrolment as barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.. We congratulate all the members of our Law Graduating Class of 2019 who have been found worthy both in character and learning. Your individual sacrifices over the past five years have eventually paid off. We also congratulate your parents and guardians for their much-needed support and guidance.
“Out of the total of 143 students in the graduating class, 15 finished in the First Class category, this representing 10.5%. Another 76 students earned Second Class Honours (Upper Division), this representing 53.1% while the remaining 52 finished with Second Class Honours (Lower Division), this representing 36.4% of the total.
“It is gratifying to note that none of the 143 students finished in either Third Class or Ordinary Pass. It hardly gets better than this. We have never been so pleased.
“As you move on with the next phase of your training as Ibadan alumni/alumnae, we trust that you will bring to bear the honest hard work, perseverance, diligence, team work, consistency, adroit time management, passion, avoidance of negative peer influence, and other positive virtues that have stood you in good stead among the crowd. We wish you every success. You are our pride. With God on your side, we look forward to seeing you all the top.”
